When you find out that to have a wireless network at home you have to have the bloody 'ADSL router thing' plugged in 24/7 to a poxy soddin' PC - which trails cable all over the house and up the stairs............

Wireless means, you only have to be connected to only one PC..............

They should all be done under the trade descriptions act.. smashfreakB.gifsmashfreakB.gifsmashfreakB.gifsmashfreakB.gif

Bloody Belkin, Netgear, Linkys......... AAARRGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

Pete, lay off the crack pipe! If you're unsure, read that pm i sent you again! You don't need to have any pc wired in. Your router will manage and maintain an always-on wireless connection. Yes this is always wired into the wall, but its the size of a bloody phone and will never require your attention.

Calm down! smirk.gif

give me a call if you have any questions or start to have another panic attack! (i know what my ringer sounds like now!!) Jeez, last thing we want is your blood pressure going right up, or your angina (ooooh me angina!) tongue.gif

Yeah, i think everyones correct, although you ideally need it connected to a PC to set it up, it can all be done through wireless, although you have to be careful when turning the encryption on, when wireless (write EVERYTHING down), and once its set up, you should never need to touch it again (unless you need to add new wireless adapters)

I'm going nutty, absolutely bloody nutty.

So, forgive me all you techno heads, the 'only' real route (ha bloody ha) for me to enquire about said things is somewhere like PC World....... (I know, I know), and yes Inigo I have read and re-read your pm !

Anyway, yesterday I buys meself a belkin ADSL wireless router and another card for my laptop.

I ask all the right questions and come away with my product in my greasy mitts.

I gets home, opens the box reads the instructions and suddenly it dawns on me that the instructions tell me the wireless router MUST be connected FULL TIME (to act as a gateway???)to a PC.

Only then can my laptop become 'wireless'.

I check on the Belkin website (go on, someone check.....) and it plainly says that the wireless router MUST BE CONNECTED TO A PC FULL TIME.............. and all other devices then can become wireless.

We only have the laptop, so for us it seems the wireless solution is not what it really seems frown.gif

I take takes the product back and get a full refund, the 'expert' there tells me that yes indeedy you do need a PC connected full time to the wireless router.

So much for advice eh Flush.gif

Anyway, if any of you lot know different, let me know coz I'm still very much in the dark and totally confused.

HELP THE AGED THIS WEEK !

I've got the Netgear one and it does say it is preferable to set it up via a wired network connection, but once it's running it sits on it's own. At night I turn everything off except the router and I can check into Tyresmoke using the laptop from the en-suite whilst I perform my evening ablutions.

Sorry Snail, no product ID, anyway the thing is back on the shelf now.

After speaking with a certain tanned fellow, I need a 'ADSL router that has a wireless access point' , that will be the Netgear jobbie then.

Just like Colin M.

I will soon be a happy bunny.

Putting the order in NOW.......
