Hot Hatches

Is the rs worth double the clio though? Running costs are probably more than double over a couple of years.

Think the only way to decide is to drive them all. O and beauty of it is even if I go for the clio I still have an rs in the garage ;)

Thought about one of these?

SEATCupra.net - Your #1 source for SEAT information - SEAT Leon Cupra R First UK test

This new mk2 should be mappable to something silly and it won't cost the earth to run. I've got a mk 1 and I love it. No real reason to change it yet although at 85k miles, it is getting on a bit. I'm not really a fan of any of the new hot hatches.

In a few years time though, the Clio will be worth feck all, but Ford RS's hold value suprisingly well, even the ST's fair pretty well.

Not sure that's entirely true... my gf's clio 197 was a bit over 13k 3.5 years ago... 36k miles now, she got offered 8.9k from a dealer about 6 weeks ago... I don't reckon that's bad? +++

None of the current generation of hot hatches does it for me. I'd sooner buy one of the more practical coupe's, the RX-8 springs to mind.

My brother has had an rx8 since 04, its on its 3rd engine, averages 16mpg and has lost half its power. Awful car. Probably costs more than my rs to run...

That does look very sexy mate. Is it worth more than a gti though?

The trouble is when i bought my R32 in 03 it was the only one on the market i really wanted. nothing else came close. Now there are so many good hot hatches its a buyers market.

I've not driven the new LCR either and not even read any reviews on it other than a cursory glance at my link. The new mk 2s I find a bit bland inside - swathes of plastic.

Same to be said of the S3 actually - and I didn't rate that as a good drive either which was a shame as I wanted to like it.

RS does look good but I'd not buy one for fear of its image. What about the new Imprezas - they are hatches aren't they? Someone might have already said that ...

Printed the evo group test for the flight today. Seems the leon is the fastest, even faster than the rs, but has zero steering feel and dosent inspire confidence in the corners. Haven't read the whole thing but so far the megane 250 is stealing the show. Found a nice yellow one for a good price too. Anyone driven one?

Megane is (I hate to say it) a great car, but very very focussed, and not a great deal of fun on the road, a mate has a Megane R26? something or other, and it's painful to drive about on anything other than silky smooth tarmac!

If you went with a Scoob, you'd be keeping the boxer engine layout of the Porker!

The megane 250 is meant to be a cracking drive.

I just spoke to a sales manager friend who drove the 250 and rs back to back and in his opinion the 250 takes it.

He has both in his showroom.

He says 2k off the rs's showroom price would be easy

If he has a RX8 still, tell him to get one of the small block chevy conversions - retains the weight balance but gives muscle car sound and durable engine.

Sam - let me know if you're interested in the Megane 250. I've got a mate at Renault who could do you a good deal +++

Thanks mate, a big help!

I'm in bangladesh at the moment and there is nothing I can test drive here ;)

I will be starting to test drive next week, but at the moment is a very close call between the 250 and rs. A drive will decide. I'm not sure if he is at a dealer? But any stock with prices that could be emailed to me would certainly help get the ball rolling? I would hope to have something on my drive in the next 2-3 weeks.

lol, silly sod!

It is very sorry in places but the factories are top notch, better than most i have seen in the far east with kreshes, state of the art equipment and facilities. im convinced working at these places is like working at goldman here! ;)
