Soulboy
It really is a great car, and good to see Top Gear agreeing: 2010 Top Gear Awards: full winners list - BBC Top Gear They have also done a decent road test in the snow and a good review here: Top Gear drives the Volkswagen Golf R - BBC Top Gear
Scotty
Interesting the way a 30% increase over the GTi on the monthly payments is played down to be a daily coffee and cake. It's a good review but the price does dominate.

Soulboy
Only confirms what we already know Soulboy.......what a bloody good car the R is, and IMHO well worth £30K of my money Are we the only 2 people on Tyresmoke with an R then Ashleywater? I really like the rarety of the R (mostly due to its high price) and have only seen one other on the road since I got mine 3 months ago. Its a brilliant car, that most people haven't even given a 2nd look - due to the cost. They just assume its an overpriced S3, but with worse build quality (which is what I thought till I drove one!) However, having had the following as my last few cars: > S3 (57) > A4 2.0t QuattroSpecial Edition (07) > R32 DSG mk5 (56) > R32 mk4 (53) I can say it is easily my favourite car (perhaps level with the mk4 R32) and would rate it much higher than the S3 in terms of driveability and performance, despite sharing most of the essentials. I think it looks like it Soulboy, my own particular route as follows: S3 (10) TTS (58) S3 (56) MKV R32 (55) DSG (Never again) Mk4 2 no ( 53 & 04) I have not seen another example on the road or anywhere else for that matter, actually saw an RS500 the other day, which looked absolute shite IMHO, compared to the standard RS, went for the white 3 door leather and 19's plus bluetooth (Which is feckin useless compared to the Audi system which is the DB's) More than pleased with this car, extremely underated, which I guess is based around price, but lets face it an Evo is £30K plus these days, and I would rather be driving an R for that money.
