stooH
We do cards each year (much to my chagrin) and I normally buy her flowers and/or chocolates but we don't make a big song and dance about it or go out for dinner (trying to find a babysitter on valentines day is a mare). This morning I got the card but she gave me a present as well (not that kind! she's unwell unfortunately) I opened it and she'd bought me a bottle of Cardhu, my favourite whisky. She doesn't normally buy me anything, Result!

eldavo69
I got a card and some special chilli sauce from my favourite deli so I'm happy too. My "early night" is a game in hand from the weekend though when our daughter scuppered plans by being ill, I'm just leveraging valentine's to force a mid-week rematch
Calm Chris
It's not so much the buying presents for favours I find a bit odd as the writing about it on here... Still, I suppose it's intriguing to know that some of your women are basically hookers. Say's the bloke that sends himself Valentines cards. It's an excuse to wind down, dump the kids and have some fun. From conception, Valentines was a cool way of moving from staking a girl to going public and saying that you fancy her. A card, some flowers, a few drinks and how many lads managed to work beyond first base- good times when I was single. Present day, 31 years in to a relationship it's just another day although we choose to play upto it and indulge in some hedonistic fun. I must be a right whore, since she got me a card, some smell's and some champagne. Best I don't let her shag me later, I'd feel so used.... Andrew
I've ended up writing two cards. One for the missus and one for my colleagues 12 year old daughter (which he bought and dictated the message for - just for clarity). Others have been getting them at school so he didn't want her to be left out - and so the cycle begins!
garcon magnifique
I have never sent myself a Valentine's card! Ok, just the once.
Scotty
My Dad sent me a Valentines card once !! He did it to wind my Mrs up and neither of us knew it was him for ages. I got the third degree off her !
pingpongpo
The likelihood of my missus giving it up has nothing to do with whether I buy a card/present etc
Calm Chris
The likelihood of my missus giving it up has nothing to do with whether I buy a card/present etc Who said it was? I'm sure all here have an on tap facility which is only held up by kids, being tired, time of month and several dozen other situations. All I'm saying is is that Valentines in our house tends to clear the metaphorical table. Although being my birthday sort of leverages the Valentine day treats! Mook
I make a card every year. To me it shows more thought has gone into it. Normally takes me about half an hour, by the time I've come up with an idea, drawn it once in rough, then done it properly. She calls me a soppy git every year :D
Andrew
Box of Neuhaus truffles left for g/f this morning. She sent a V Day surprise to my London address ... exactly the same box of chocs! Peas in a pod sometimes!
garcon magnifique
You sure it wasn't actually the same box?
Andrew
I guess it could have been shipped out by air ... but I think unlikely.
Waylander
I have been threatening not to mark V-Day for a couple of years and last year finally followed-through. Suffice to say this year I made DAMNED sure my dozen roses arrived on time!
onthego
haha. This year is the first time I actually DID make something like a card. It was actually an art print...and it was for a friend. Never been big on Valentines Day and this is coming from a woman but you guys have another year until you have to tear yourself up about it, again. So, enjoy the reprieve :D
