Help, I have fecked our server!

Our server runs Server 2003 and Avast Antivirus.

Avast licence is due to expire so purchased a new one. Instructions said to uninstall old version which I duly did, installed new version and licence. All was going swimmingly, got to 100%, sat like that for ages and then I got the blue screen of death.

Rebooted and it gets to Windows logo page and then reboots itself over and over again.

If I can get it to start in Safe Mode and uninstall the new Avast, will it sort it?

Our IT support can be there by 11am but that means three hours of wasted time for all of us. If I can fix it without causing more issues with the help of tsn then great!

Any help appreciated!

What a day!! Server was completely fecked. Hard drive failure and the Raid hadn't done its job properly (don't know what it hadn't done but there were some worried phone calls from our place to the support company's base going on).

Anyway, full disaster support plan into operation, new server on site by 3pm, data uploaded from our backups and we have a skeleton system up and running. Fingers crossed totally sorted by tomorrow, Monday at the latest.

Beer, I need you!!

Amaingly how much value a good backup is ... which makes the fact that most people never do a test restore quite weird.

I think for many they don't have a DR system or another copy of their live server. So the risk is that restoring from a backup puts them at risk of having no working system at all.

Much to my wife's delight, the new system brings updated stuff with it like the ability to log in to the office from my phone. I can still hear her cheering now. That is cheering I'm sure.....!

Absolutely sterling work from our outsourcing IT firm. We will be running month end on Monday one day later than normal!
