Not so impressed with a white one I saw, and they didn't give it any beans This one had 2 middling exhausts But the silver one I saw was already past me by the time I saw it. The back of them is very E-Type (IMHO) - which is good! This one had 4 exhausts slightly closer together than on an BMW M Car. If you spec the F-Type up to have the Xenons and things that the 35i has (bearing in mind Jaguar charge you more to have a sunvisor with a mirror in it!) then you get to a price of £62,425. That, in my opinion, is about £15,000 more than this car should be, across the range. Maybe more on the V8 that starts at £80,000 before you add any options at all. The talk of competing with the Boxster was particularly misleading. If you consider the V6 a 911 rival and the V8 an Aston Vantage rival (as per the road tests EVO did) then it begins to make sense. I've not seen the reports though so I'll try to do that. It still amazes me that some people hold the Jaguar brand in such high esteem. The neighbour of a friend of mine (the guy with the Overfinch) owns an Audi and was stood talking recently and saying about how he'd like to move up to a Jag next. I thought I was hearing things. I think they look stunning, but have yet to hear one or sit in one, let alone drive one - id like to though! However the pricing is keen when you line them up against their perceived competitors, almost as if Jag are trying to create another class of £60k - £70k Sports car. Base V6 340PS is 57k Better V6 380PS is 67k Top V8 is 80k All before any options. Like for like 911 Cabriolets: Carrera is 82k Carrera S 92k Boxster S 46k. R8 Spider starts at 100k Aston Martin website is too dull to bother trying to find a price.... However, BMWs 6 Series Convertible: 640i SE 66k 650 M Sport 78k Which kind of fits with the market positioning of their other models like the XF going up against the 5 series. And as your pricing shows, it is still £11k more at base level than than Boxster in S form! I just don't see how any of the pricing is keen. I know it'd be sacrilege to many on here but I would say a lot of non-car enthusiasts I talk to would first of all not consider Audi a premium brand at all, then place the rest in order from BMW up to Jaguar up to Mercedes. It seems in the psyche of many Brits the X Type didn't damage Jaguar as much as it perhaps should have... It's difficult to find direct competitors for the F Type. It's definitely a sector above the Boxster and Z4. But it's not a 6 series rival - that would be the XK. And it's actually cheaper than many of the others mentioned - 911 cabrio, R8 spyder, Aston Volante etc. I suppose you could consider it in a similar way to the R8. The Audi badge will never compete on prestige terms with Porsche and Aston Martin, but the car itself is so bloody good it can carry it. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

To me, it's a Mondeo in drag. *MrMe not included Indeed, it was so well known that everyone knew it was 'just' a fancy Mondeo, even people with no interest in cars, Jaguar were very, very lucky that people made that distinction as the rest of the range, particularly since the XF are held in the same high regard as they always were, if not more so. From what I saw on the Jag configurator they're trying to challenge Porsche for the title of "Lets make everything barring wheels an option". Also they are eye wateringly expensive to insure. My XKR was $2800/year with a $5000 excess. The Panamera which is a more expensive car is a huge $1600/year and about $1500 excess. ** The cars themselves are awesome, but owning one is a trial. ** both cars are pretty much all aluminium, and hence harder to repair if shunted than steel, so why the price disparity?
