Andy_Bangle
What a legend, I'm shocked to see him go like that. But One more concussion, even an incredibly mild one could be disastrous for him. Not worth the risk to compete any more, and he's one of the all time greats IndyCar drivers...nothing left to prove! Press Release: http://www.franchitti.com/pressroom/index.php?newsid=253&noshow=1 It was such an awful crash. Video here: He was honestly lucky to survive. I think this a good decision for him. It was almost deadly for the fans too: Edited November 15, 2013 by Andy_Bangle

Rachel
Even we down under know of the fearless Franchitti... It's a great loss (the driver) and a great gain to motorsport (the man). Gutsy call, well made. I hope he takes his recovery in Scotland nice and slow. With small bouts of adrenaline delivered from one or more of his choice road cars. BTW - is he still married to Ashley Judd?
patently
Sad but sensible
Mook
That is a hideous accident. And if you look at how close to the track the grandstands are compared to F1, you start to realise what a brilliant job the FIA have done in increasing spectator safety, all kicked off with Max Mosely at the helm. Scotty
When you watch from the reverse angle you can see how close his car was to going through the barriers. Any one of those could have decapitated him. Amazingly fortunate to survive. I hope he has a good career within the sport now. jimdiesel
He split up from Ashley Judd a while ago Rachel. A great driver. I followed his career since vauxhall junior in the early 90s. Watched all his Indy 500 and championship deciders live. Much as I admire him as a driver, I admire him as a man more. His recent Evo columns show how much of a car guy he is. Thank you Dario.
