PetrolDave
My Skoda Superb had all that back in 2003, and so did the base spec models, it's somewhat ridiculous you have to spec something like that on an Audi. Even my wife's 2005 Skoda Fabia 1.2 (which cost under £7k new) has the interior light package.
Scotty
The light package plus a tweak with VCDS to activate ambient lighting is worth while. In fact not having a glovebox light would twist my melons!
NewNiceMrMe
I thought you were all joking about there being no glovebox light. Holy poo. That is astonishing money-pinchingly tight. Perhaps the bulb worsens the NCAP rating?

AZURES3
Wife has agree to actually drive an A6 and I have found a bargain of an A6 with optional 19" wheels, heated seats, BOSE at same list price as A4 but much lower mileage and suspect more bargaining room. No Quattro but only available on bigger engine A6's http://www.audi.co.uk/used-cars/used-car-locator/vehicle.aspx?wflw=se_na_ve_vi&ctr=34379&vhl=604312596
Booster
Wheels are much better on the A6. Pay no attention to them saying "we can't possibly go any lower than £x". Do as MrMe says and say thanks for your time, bye and wait for the call.

Agreed I am going to tell A4 salesman that I am not interested unless a deal can be done at £22,850 and cancel the test drive as it nearly 2 hours away from home. M8CKN
A6 all day long at that price, the Mrs will get used to it or debdge it and tell her it's an A4
cruiser647
Does it have the rear parking sensors? As would help Mrs A park it easier! & the Light Pack? Edited May 23, 2014 by cruiser647
Scotty
We had an A6 loaner for a few days before we spec'ed up the A4. My Mrs view that it was too big was based on her driving it. I had no chance to convince her otherwise. Same with E-class, 5 series etc.
Cuprabob
Strange that as women, in my experience, tend to perceive things are smaller than they actually are... With the A6 you've also gor the extra bargaining power of it not being NCAP tested:-) Edited May 23, 2014 by Cuprabob

But we need big as my 9 year old daughter is 8ft tall! Time to be devious.

garcon magnifique
I can see how a little badge engineering could work to convince 'er indoors that the A6 you bought is really an A4. Not sure that's gonna work with a Golf and a 5 series.

AZURES3
I am down to 2 cars, boot space is much more usuable in the A6 and wife coming round to the idea too. The A4 is a nice car and £2k cheaper than any others on the Audi or Autotrader site they have it reduced £1000 on promotion until 5/6/14. The A6 is very well speced with technology pack givng 8.5" screen and audi connect etc, BOSE, heated front seats, 19" wheels A4 http://www.audi.co.uk/used-cars/used-car-locator/vehicle.aspx?wflw=se_na_ve_vi&ctr=143844&vhl=604181382 A6 http://www.audi.co.uk/used-cars/used-car-locator/vehicle.aspx?wflw=se_na_ve_vi&ctr=791795&vhl=604385995 I need to decide what size car we really need and if I really need Quattro with only 177BHP on tap in the A4. My big concern is the future value in 3-4 years I suspect the A4 will be worth more ?
NewNiceMrMe
Out of interest, whilst I know you're an Audi customer, have you considered looking at a 5 or 3 series? The interiors and tech are a mile ahead of Audi in my opinion for the model/year car you're looking at and you'd get a nicely specified vehicle too. My big concern is the future value in 3-4 years I suspect the A4 will be worth more ? I've no driven a 177 diesel but a similar powered petrol (I guess less torque though?) still suffered from a bit of torque steer and of course tramping when going for a quick get away. That alone means I'd not have a FWD. Add in the other benefits of quattro and as long as you can accept the 10% impact on fuel then for me it'd be an easy choice. MrMe - after 8 years in an Audi I genuinely thought I'd be in a beemer. We found the 3 series boot really lacking in space and with kids needing a pushchair and all the other junk it just didn't work out. That won't be an issue next time. The 5 series we test drove resulted in the same response from the Mrs as the A6 - simply too big for her. The interiors (4 years ago when we looked) had improved to the point that it wouldn't stop me buying one. In fact the VW/Audi interiors although fine seem to be so standard across all models it's got a bit tedious.
