Ian_C
That phrase always makes me smile. Is Ari Vatanen on some forum now, stressing over his next purchase? I am sure it's fun, but no-one needs 4WD. No-one needs 367 bhp either..........
jimdiesel
Yeah I know, but I just have a problem with the Golf R. its almost £40 and its a Golf. That's a £40k Golf and I cannot justify it in my mind as being worth £40k to me, ever, so I tend to be a little negative on the spec. I cannot justify in my mind over £30k for a Golf, it doesn't have for me the feel of a car of that value. I suspect I am stuck in a time bubble where I have distorted views on values and the golf fails that criteria. The list price of MrsDiesels newly delivered GTD was £31k. I think it is ok value for money and it does feel like a £30k car. A Golf R is only slightly more in basic spec and is pretty good vfm imo fab.

Mook
Same engine, different turbo. I run a hybrid turbo on my tractor and it pushes 240+ and mental torque courtesy of Shark
TP27
I'd like one with the 240ps lump out of the new Passat. Some engine - Spec the new Passat with that engine and it's a hell of a cost !!

I run a hybrid turbo on my tractor and it pushes 240+ and mental torque courtesy of Shark No amount of mapping can add a second turbo! The 240 PS engine is the bi-turbo that VAG have been developing for 5+ years, first on sale to the public in the VW Transporter I believe

Riz
I actually looked at a BMW 335d xdrive msport saloon and with discount you can get the basic car for £32k. Add a few toys though and it creeps towards £40k. Could well be a option for my next car

Riz
Some basic spec's for the 335xd. 0-62mph: 4.8 seconds Power: 313bhp Torque: 466lb/ft Top Speed: 155mph (limited) Fuel Consumption: 52.3mpg (combined) Sounds very appealing to me. Torino101
Do they make it as a Touring?? What a great stealth estate.
Riz
Yep they also make it in Touring. the 8-Speed ZF gearbox is a nice box. The 4WD system is better than the typical Haldex systems too. I am seriously considering it as my next car in Saloon guise. It has 480 litre boot with a long options spec list. jimdiesel
The suspension on the xdrive BMWs comes in for some criticism. As standard even the M Sports come with a softer higher riding set up. This needs to be fixed by specifying the adaptive set up. Even then it comes with thinner anti role bars than the sdrives. People have been disappointed with the handling as a result.
