E-bmw
Call me a spoilsport if you like. Call me a sanctimonious tw@ if you like. Am I the only one who sees this & thinks, Oh feckin' great, another ignorant noisey b@st@rd to ruin the day? By the way, I say the same about cars, not just bikes, but bikes/bikers (I was one until a few years ago, but with a standard exhaust) seem to be far more likely to do it. Busby
You're entitled to your opinion but do you think stock Vantage V8's are driven by ignorant, noisy bast@rds? I ask as my neighbour has one and at start-up it's louder than any bike with any pipe I've ever had.
E-bmw
When you live (like I do) out in a relatively small village, MANY times through a nice day you hear many (ridiculously un-silenced) bikes easily from up to 2 to 3 miles away quite frequently, it is NOT a good sound, sorry. As for Vantages, they are silenced & meet C & U regs, as does any vehicle exhaust when built. I suspect that bean can sized silencer doesn't. For the record I have a TD car which is fully silenced & is always the quietest thing on track, so I do not have double standards.
Busby
Watch the first 25 seconds - the Vantage is only 2 miles http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x536j8_top-gear-v8-vantage-carrera-s-m6-pa_auto You'll notice that the bike (as have all my previous bikes with aftermarket exhausts) still has the cats fitted. So I haven't gone for as much noise as possible as I would have fitted a straight through system if I'd wanted to do that. The can is also baffled as was the can on the RF before it so you suspect incorrectly that it isn't silenced. I guess I'll find out at MOT time whether it meets the emissions test but I'd be staggered if it didn't and I know for a fact that the RF did as it was tested at its first service. If you don't like the noise that's fair enough but don't consider that people who have put aftermarket exhausts on are simply trying to make as much noise as possible. And for the record I do live in a relatively small village and have far more of an issue with morons who can't stay to the 30 limit than I do with cars/bikes that make a bit of noise. Busby
As a comparison you can see the videos below. The new can just has a slightly deeper, angrier rasp to it. Not quite akin to a baked bean can on a Nova.
E-bmw
I didn't say you HAD gone for as much noise as possible. Actually, if you read what I said, you will see that I said I suspect it does not conform to C & U regs, not that is wasn't silenced. I suspect it would fall foul of current noise regs otherwise the manufacturer would have made it like that in the first place. Emissions regs clearly don't come into it, I can see the cat is there, which is why I never mentioned it. I couldn't agree more with your issue with 30 mph flaunters, that is there for the safety of others & is sacrosanct to me too.
Busby
I really don't get the issue then - is the issue noise? Or do you care that it might not conform to C & U regs? I guessed the issue was noise as you lived in a small village and seemed to have an issue with being interrupted by noisy cars/bikes. You then went on to say part of the reason the AM was okay was because it was silenced. So maybe noise isn't the issue as something that comes out of a factory and is louder than my bike is okay? My point is that fitting something aftermarket is not a part of that issue as there are hundreds of new vehicles which are far louder than my bike(s) are with the aftermarket exhaust. I mentioned emissions as they are a part of the C & U regs. I don't think it will fall foul of any noise regs as (as previously mentioned) there are far noisier things on the road that are OEM. The 30mph thing really annoys me too - the worst ones are the people who drive along the national limit stretch approaching at 40mph and then continue at 40mph right through the other side and back into another national limit stretch and continue at 40mph
JonC
On a bike you need a loud pipe. Folk driving cars tend to forget what they're doing, and not concentrate, dustracted by texts, sar nav, and other mibile/media distractions. I see it all the time and have been guilty if it myself. I've gone for a very noisy full exhaust purposely so I'm heard and seen.

Busby
Cheers Jon Looks great in the flesh too - the titanium finish is lovely and hopefully will blue up very nicely once some heat starts going through it. I wasn't trying to get into an argument over the can and agree that having a bit of extra noise can help with awareness at times. The bottom line with it is that it's a bit noisier than the standard can on that bike but nowhere near as noisy as lots of other standard/factory cars/bikes. However, I got labelled as an ignorant noisy ba5tard with a baked bean can exhaust when actually the truth is anything but. Ho hum.

Yes the issue is noise. Part of C & U regs state the maximum (can't remember what it is) noise level, you have fitted an exhaust that is less well silenced than OE & therefore is noisier. I didn't say the AM was OK because it was silenced, I said it was ok because it was standard & therefore compliant with C & U (due to type approval) I am sure there are louder vehicles out there that have passed type approval but you will find if you look that it is illegal to modify a vehicle's exhaust system when it results in more noise & that is what you & many other drivers & riders have done. So it will fall foul within the letter and spirit of the law, sorry. "Exhaust system All exhaust silencers must be maintained in a good and efficient working order. You will be breaking the law if you remove a silencer or make any modification that would make that vehicle emit a noise louder than the original exhaust before it was modified." Copy/paste from .gov We will never agree on this and we are entitled to disagree, I respect your right to have a differing opinion. Couldn't agree more about the idiots that do 40 in a 60, 40 in a 40, 40 in a 30, 40 in a 20, and then again going up!!!!!! I see it all the time, as that is the way the limits go in & out of my village too.

I see it all the time, as that is the way the limits go in & out of my village too. Enraging isn't it?! Re the exhaust, the point I am trying to make is this: Imagine the AM runs at 105dB as standard and is type approved Imagine my bike runs at 100dB in standard trim but I have a new exhaust which makes it run at 103dB Which is more of an issue with causing noise? The above is exactly what my situation is, albeit the numbers I have used are made up. I have modified the exhaust so that it is slightly louder than the OEM fitment but it is not over the top at all. And it is most certainly not a bean can and I am most certainly not an ignorant, noisy ba5tard. In fact, Kawasaki take the true original exhaust off the bike and fit an Akrapovic can which is louder. Thus by the letter of the law the manufacturer is breaking the law by giving away the Akra pipe and fitting it for you!! I imagine we won't agree on this but labelling some ignorant, noisy and a ba5tard without having any of the facts to hand wasn't great imo. With the facts as they are I still can't really get the issue although I fully understand the frustration of people making modifications that make a vehicle ridiculously loud.
E-bmw
As I said a while ago, we will never agree on this partly because you are constantly trying to find reasons to justify what you and others have done because you think it isn't over the top.......... I do. Two wrongs don't make a right springs to mind when you say "the manufacturer does it". Maybe my labelling of you was wrong, so accept my apologies for that. In my defence, when I see an exhaust like that & have to put up with 20/50/100/many more, similarly equipped machines blatantly/audibly racing through the several square mile area around my village hour after hour on a nice day, it is quite understandable that it infuriates me. I am not saying car drivers don't do it, they do but to hear 2, 3, 4 or more sports bikes in a group many times through the day, going up & down through 3, 4, 5 gears at (pretty much) full chat repeatedly advertising the fact that they are completely and blatantly flaunting both the law & EVERYONE's safety makes my p!ss boil. And now I will climb down off my soap box & breathe!
Busby
I agree that we won't agree on it It was the labelling as me being the same as others that I had an issue with - thanks for your comments on that I have as much frustration/annoyance with bikers riding recklessly/racing as you do. It's the very reason that I very rarely ride in a group and I NEVER speed through villages. Just like in a car though, there are times when you can ride quickly, safely and appropriately all at the same time. I'll also say that I do a lot of my riding in an area regarded as having some of the most stringently policed roads in the country and I've never had cause to be sat at the roadside talking to a member of the constabulary or received a nasty letter! Giving my bike a slightly raspier exhaust note doesn't mean I ride it like a cnut! And I do completely understand (and also completely agree) that people revving these bikes out through 3/4/5 gears on the road are a problem that nobody needs. Like anyone who has ridden bikes for a long time I have lost friends on them. Of the three of mine that have passed away only one of them was not at fault. And whilst it is still incredibly sad that somebody I know has died, one of them in particular rode like an utter idiot and I only ever went out with him once (and tailed off early to ride somewhere else on my own) because of that fact. Frankly these people are a danger to all of us and I have just as big of an issue with them as you do

NewNiceMrMe
The chirping is fantastic! I'd spend all my time getting it to do that! The way it accelerates up to the camera bike at the end is nothing short of terrifying!
Busby
The chirping is an awful lot of fun Build revs to c. 8k Roll off throttle Laugh inside helmet Once I'm allowed to rev it out and have the boost maxed out then I imagine the chirping will be even louder when you close the throttle.
