All the home cinema experts out there this one is for you. I currently have a pair of Mission 773 floor standers, a 77c centre and a couple rears, I am considering selling for the Bose Acoustimass 15 Home Cinema Speaker System. Do you think the Bose would give a better sound than the Missions obviously there is a massive space saving but that is not what I am after. In the shop they do sound very good. Does anyone own a bose system and if so are you pleased with it?

My AV receiver is a Denon 3803, which I feel is pretty good.

All your input would be appreciated, If I was to sell what do think the 3 front speakers are worth they are in mint condition.

Thanks

grin.gif Hi !! I'm by no means a home cinema expert but I have had my Bose Acoutsimass 15 setup for about 9 months now and am still really pleased with it. Its unintrusive enough sizewise that you don't even noticed it - I've managed to locate the accoustimass bass module under the coffee table!

When we watch a DVD it never fails to please me and impress visitors with a solid , well defined sound - mated with a Marantz receiver.

I'm sure that floorstanders technically give a better sound if you are a real audio-nut ! I also use them with an Arcam CD player and they do a good job with all types of music !

they still get my vote jump.gif

I'm not a fan of Bose products. At least 50% of the price you pay for them is to cover their marketing rather than value in the box. Although they sound good in a shop or for short demo purposes, I find them tiring to listen to for longer periods as all the mid range seems to be lacking. This is probably because there isn't a decent sized cone in the system other than for the thud thud out of the sub.

Search a few audiophile boards or related newsgroups for more comments.

I have a 3-2-1 system at home, I like it as it is good for a small sized room and there are very few cables. For my requirements it is great. Yes for the money you coulf buy a better system but it suits me for what i want.

My mate had an Acoustimass setup. We watched a movie one night (Species), and from where I was sitting - somewhat off-centre - the sound was terrible. No focus and very little ambience that you get with a normal speaker setup.

Overpriced rubbish as far as I'm concerned. Oh, and for music playback, you'd be much better with the Missions too.

If you do sell, expect to get no more that 1/3 of what you paid for them, even if they are mint and reasonably new.

There are lots of discrete "lifestyle" speaker offerings nowadays if that's what you are after. Some even sound good smile.gif

Dont get them, your going to be buying speakers that are very overpriced. they are good but not for that price.

Ive got the KEF Eggs Foggy mentioned. they are very sexy little things and sound fantastic. If u want get rid of ur missions coz they are too big then fine if not then keep them. U'll make an expensive mistake gettng the Bose.

No offence to any Bose owners ok

Might not be a popular reply this frown.gif

I went into a shop fully intent on buying the Acoustimas setup but when I got to listen to it in their sound room I wasn't overly impressed.

As I was after small speakers and a sub they refered me to the KEF 2005 which I thought were much better sounding, just my opinion though

I did exactly the same!!!!

i had my heart set on a set of Acoustimass 5's but when i went to the shop they said that although they are ok, they are very overpriced incomparison to the competition. They recommended the KEF 2005 or the Missions (cant remember the model number). I test drove the KEF against the missions and chose the KEFS in the end as i felt that the range suited my music tastes better. I've had them for about 18 months now and they still look and sound awesome and the bonus is that you dont need anything funky in the amplifier department to drive them. The Missions were more sensitive the the amp selection.

Having compared the KEF's to my friends BOSE AM5's i can confirm that the KEF's walk all over the BOSE sonically. the BOSE lacks depth in comparison.

Go for KEF, you'll not be disappointed. If you live around the Kent area, you're welcome to come over and have a listen. beerchug.gif

I've got a Bose Acoustimass 10 system that I bought about 4 years ago. At the time it was one of the only small speaker packages around. I didn't have the physical space for a large speaker system. I'm not an audiophile so the sound seemed OK to me and have been pleased with my purchase.

However if I were to buy again now I would probably go for the Kefs as they seem to have the best reviews for their size.
