russellfray
Does anybody know what the stuff is called that you use to hide cabling that looks like a vacuum cleaner hose? Basically it's a flexible hose that can be stretched like a concertina (sp?). I want some in black, fairly thin, to cover the metal posts on my car headrests after I've fitted some screens so i can run the cables. I don't want the stuff that has a "split" down one side, but rather stuff that is solid so the cables have to be run down the middle. I've searched for conduit, hosing, trunking, but just can't think of what it's called If someone can come up with not only the name of the stuff but a website in the UK that sells it, I would be very grateful!!! Scotty
I know it;s not what you're searching for but have you considered heat shrink tubing?
russellfray
The problem is that the headrests still need to be able to move up and down... so i need something flexible (and springy) so that as the headrests move up, it will spring out and cover the whole tube - but when the headrests go down, it will compress. Chav
conduit/sleeving/tubing me thinks... maplin.co.uk sell flexible conduit in 13.8 or 17.2mm inner bore as well as heat-shrinkable sleeving/tubing in the cable and accessories section. Sven
Have you checked whether the metal 'posts' are hollow? That's usually where they hide the cable for an LCD...

[/ QUOTE ] I don't know how to get the headrests out yet, I have posted the question in the A4 board but no replies yet - if they are hollow then that would be excellent, but I know previous cars I've had (Rover/Jaguar) were solid and not hollow. Sven
Isn't there a small catch in the rings around the posts? I do know they sell head rests with LCD screens, both OE and aftermarket. Maybe that's a good solution? I suppose a wire will block the movement of the posts, or compromise the support. If you for some reason want to fit it yourself in the existing headrests, I'd perhaps opt for a curly 'phone cable', instead of trying to hide it. Jon
The name of the stuff you are after is convoluted tubing, used to use loads of it on aircraft installations. As for suppliers try RS or Farnell Components, oh hang on, just found these guys: Convoluted Tuning Jon.

Paul
its called all sort of things as mentioned. Kopex is another name, which is a trade name, but easily known at electrical wholesalers. Basically it is a form of flexible conduit. Some are more flexible and pliable than others.
