Torino101
Sorry if tyres have been covered many many times before, but am looking to replace the 225 45 17's on my 3 series and the sort of things I have been looking at have been (with corresponding fitted prices I can get them for): Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 £115 Michelin Pilot Sport £115 Pirelli Pzero Rosso £116 Continental Sport Contact 2 £124 Are thes good prices? Which is the "best" tyre to go for in this sort of price range? I'm Tempted by the Eagles, however the price I have found for the Pilot Sports (NOT Pilot Sport 2's) seems pretty competitive? Wallachie
DO NOT get the Conti Sports, I had them on my S3 and they were total rubbish. I have just put on 4 new GSD3's and they have been pretty good so far, although I've only done about 500 miles on them. Mine are 225 40 x 18" and they were £100 a corner all in, so £115 is a bit pricey for 17". GSD3's are apparently the best all round tyre at the moment, in that price range. Apparently the Pirelli's wear quite quickly, and are best when warmed up so unless you drive like Schumacher I would stay clear. I would also highly recommend Bridgestone Potenza SO3's, I had these before the GSD3's and I thought they were a good tyre.
ian_m
I have just changed from Pilot sport 2's to Eagle F1's and the Goodyear IMO is a much better tyre
MattR32
Pilot Sports last forever but the Eagle F1s grip better. My Ashtray came with Sport Contact 2s (same size -17" 225/45) from new and only done 8k on them so far but I reckon they're okay. I'll stick F1s on when they need replacing though. NeilB
Look at the Toyo Proxies, seem to perform pretty well in tests compared to the regular brands.
Torino101
Does anyone know of any good sites to find cheap prices for any of these? (Black Circles seem a bit expensive). Or do you all just go down to your local fitters?

NewNiceMrMe
Pilot Sports 2 XL's are superb on M3's - but you'll not get more than 10,000 miles out of the rears. Continentals, IMO, should carry a health and safety warning if you put them on an M3.
simkna
www.etyres.co.uk have the F1 GSD3 in your size for £118.90 inc. VAT fitted all inclusive (they will come out and fit at your home or place of work for that price) Si.
MattR32
I 2nd Britannia Tyres should you be anywhere near Bristol. My Pilots lasted ages on my R32 - I must drive like a gay.
R32North
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s are only £84.10 inc VAT and Delivery per corner at www.mytyres.co.uk Seems like a damn good deal if you ask me!! Look at adding about £8 per corner for fittng at local tyre shop!
Torino101
I think I will probably go for the Pilot Sports - The general concensus seems to be that the Eagles are the best tyre, but as I don't drive like a complete maniac, only occasionally, I like the sound of the longevity of the Pilots combined with pretty good performance. TP27
Seconded.....buy the F1 GSD3's, one night when it's wet and you're going round a tight corner and you stay with the turn safely, you'll remember why you opted for F1's!!
RossG
I've just put a set of F1 GSD2's on the Fabia - and I second what Tosh said - they are excellent. Had Toyo Proxes T1s before that and they were okay - just slightly numb. OE the car had Michelin Pilot Premacy. Hmm... they didn't cope well with 229 lb/ft of torque. Or wet scottish roads
Omi
I ran Pilot Exaltos (not quite Sports, I realise) and got 3,000 miles out of a pair of rears... I've had 20,000 out of the Goodyear Eagles I replaced them with. - Better tyre in every respect IMHO.
Durrsaku
I read a review which really praised the Pirelli Pzero Rossos and they scored a lot more than the other tyres you have got listed. A lot of people in here prefer the GY eagle though.
Mo-S3
Surprised there arent more opinions of the p-zero's.I ve heard they are very good and do last a long time compared to other brands. Can anyone confirm this who has them on now or in the past? Using Toyos at the moment; good grip but not so good life span. Wear quite quickly. P_G
Torino, stick with F1's. You don't need to drive like a maniac on them, just as good for normal driving, road noise is less than Michelin's, Bridgestone S03's and Conti's. Grip is better, even in sedate driving conditions and this is exemplified in the wet. I haven't used a better tyre. For wear rate, I originally had Bridgestone's on my S3 which lasted 15000 and then switched to F1's until I sold the S3 for my S4 and they still had 3 mm left on them after 37000 on the clock, so long lasting. Got the S4 with Conti's and hated them so just switched after 16500 miles and no tread left to F1's again and the difference is pronounced. Whereabouts in London are you? I can recommend a tyre place on south bound A10 at Enfield (near Beehive pub junction, right next to the car auction place)where I got my F1's and they were around £15 per corner cheaper than the .com's and other local and £40 cheaper than Kwik Fit. I'll find out the name if you need it.
