PetrolDave
[ QUOTE ] Dave - was Audio-Pilot standard from launch on the V8 S4? - how do I know if it has it or not (mine is a late 03)- as I assume my A4 (2004) had Audio-Pilot and I know my Boxster S did - yet the S4's BOSE sounds the best of the three! [/ QUOTE ] No it wasn't standard from launch. My 2003 V8 S4 had the non Audio Pilot version. That was a very early UK delivery - only the second car that Camberley Audi had received. The non Audio Pilot version still had Gala, which the Audio Pilot version doesn't (unless you've had Audio Pilot disabled by the dealer as per the Technical Service Bulletin 91-04-17 when they re-enable Gala). P_G
[ QUOTE ] Disagree there to be honest. Bose is nine Bose speakers and six Bose amps for £450. Admittedly there is the saving to Audi of not putting their own speakers etc in, but I reckon thats not too bad. Dread to think what the Bang & Olefson system in the A8 costs though... [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, but it's worth it. Find a stealer with a W12 fitted with Bang & Olufsen system, you'll be impressed. Saying that the acoustics and external sound insulation in the A8 are probabaly better than an A4 which will help.
Avus_Bub
[ QUOTE ] Maybe the recording level on your CD's is too low? Good quality recordings make a huge difference with any decent sound system. [/ QUOTE ] That's so true Chav - Like I said 'Rubbish in , Rubbish out'. Avus_Bub
[ QUOTE ] In the avant - 6/10 - It needs far more oomph and base - and yes, I do have at Bass +6 and volume 30... [/ QUOTE ] UBM - I think you need one of these................................................................ I could use your car as a 'prototype' if you like........... bearra
Just read this thread and have to say the BOSE in my 09/2005 cab is weak compared to my 03/2004 cab, not sure why but it is no way near as good as the previous one. I would only give my current BOSE 5/10. Plus Audiopilot does my nut in and it's no easy VAG job to switch it off.
Fergy
Brilliant esp compared to my A3
IanHo
With good quality recordings the Bose can sound great, but as with most "quality" Hi-Fi gear it shows bad recordings up for what they are, and can sound truly awful. Overall I reckon 7/10, the ultimate accolade though must be the missus, who said "It sounds fantastic, loads better than my Scenic!"; that was after she berated me for spending £450 on the Bose, £750 on the Xenon's etc etc....... gizze
Bose is a waste of money, far too bright at the top and a harsh midrange, it only sounds any good with really soft recordings that have plenty of detail. I was comparing my mates A6 with Bose to my A6 without out but upgraded front speakers, 16cm Rainbow components that cost £160, and the difference is not subtle, the Bose sounds awful in comparison. NewNiceMrMe
Hmm, well I can give quite a good comparitive review here against BMW. My A4 Avant has the BOSE Convert stero and it's far better than the BMW Business Stereo that comes in most 3-series. However, it's also better than the Hi-Fi upgrade that BMW offer when you choose SatNav as an option on a 3-series (or in my case, on my previous M3 Cab). The stereo in my 6 is the 7 speaker system which is undoubtedly much better than the BOSE Concert - but hey, I'd be whinging big style if it wasn't. So as a standard system, and certainly when compared to the 3-series standard, I rate the BOSE Concert as above average. It's bass qualities are much better and it's also a much better stereo to find your way around. I agree with CarMad's post earlier mind you. The kings of the standard stereo systems are without doubt Lexus and Volvo. I've heard a system (standard) in an XC90 that was truly incredible. However, unbelievably, the standard system in a Chrysler Grand Cherokee is also stunning - though it doesn't make up for the fact that the rest of the car is pants. gizze
But to be fair the sound of the Hi-Fi system in the 3 series is laughable, it is really really poor. I do think that you are better to buy the standard non bose system and get Halfords to fit their £99 infinity speakers up front.
s4_sat
the bose 10 speaker system in my a4 is great. i've had comments of 'when did you get a sub fitted?' and 'gonna turn that down ya hooligan!' the concert head unit isn't the best though, i've swapped mine for a pioneer mp3 head unit which has improved the quality and gives me more control over the sound.
