catman
Went to the local dealers today, they had a cancelled order and therefore was prereg and was up for £29995! They allocation is only going to be two and the other one is already sold. The lead time for the Gti was 7 months for a non dsg model. The factory is not getting anymore dsg boxes until Feb/March. TP27
Catman, welcome to TSN by the way!! What was the spec of the cancelled order. It looks like most of the stealers are getting their cars in today/tomorrow...

TP27
Albeit, a Mk-IV 5-door Golf R32 in 2003 in Deep Blue with Sat-Nav, Cruise Control, Black Leather and Sunroof came in at £28,000 "on the road"??!!
catman
The car is 5dr manual, with leather, central arm rest, winter pack and RCD500 (not sure which spec). I thought I might be lucky when he said there was a cancelled order.
TP27
So they're looking for a c.£2k premium for Demo stock on the new R over list price........correct??
jagseven
how can it be a cancelled order? - it's not been possible to put an order in

TP27
[ QUOTE ] how can it be a cancelled order? - it's not been possible to put an order in [/ QUOTE ] Some stealers are allocating Demo stock to customers champing at the bit to buy the new R. By the sound of it, Demo's will be turned out early to beat the ordering system and likely delivery delays at a price premium.... One TSN'er is test driving a new R right now!! I've just had a text, so his full Report should be with us this evening!
catman
There are not getting their demo car until next week and will not sell it off until at less spring, at a premium I imagine. Can't see the point in have a demo car if you are only allocated 2 cars a year?? I expect it will draw people to the show room.

Can't see the point in have a demo car if you are only allocated 2 cars a year?? I expect it will draw people to the show room. [/ QUOTE ] I personally reckon the allocation thing could well be a marketing strategy/porky to initially create a mass wirlwind of interest, so demand (alegedly) outstrips supply (the stage we're currently at now) then slowly dripfeed the market at a closely monitored rate. This way dealers make top £, residuals stay high and the new R will be considered even more special than the general concensus would have us beleive Its all about manufacturers protecting their 'halo product'. And VW have a track record for doing this extremley well within the industry
Smudge
Dealers can't sell above list AFAIK.
catman
They can if the car already has name on the log book. The cancelled could have just been given to some else without registering it, but that wold mean £2K less profit.
Mollox
[ QUOTE ] I've just posted in 'Spotted' but I shall tell everyone here also, Caffyns in Haywards Heath may have a demo 5dr in DBP with DSG. Service manager didn't know for sure. It had been PDI'd and all the service guys were taking it in turns to nail about in it. I might organise a drive just for fun. [/ QUOTE ] Top stuff Dan, Let me know if this is a bonafide one as the GF was suggesting we go down to her folks this weekend and I was a bit 50/50. This might sway it for me... Hello Balcombe Road!! jagseven
Kings - how was the test drive. Did you like it?
k1ngs
Yes - I ordered one! It was not as loud as the Mk IV certainly. Handled very nicely and very impressed with the DSG - clicking down a couple of gears was hardly noticable.
AGK512
good for you. what spec did you go for ?
k1ngs
Haven't decided yet - apparently I don't need to until Jan (ish). However, probably going for leather (not Recaro!), DSG and maybe Sat Nav (or 6 CD). Will see how much money I have in Jan!
chrisgold
Sinclairs in Swansea have had Mk5 R32 in today, not sure what spec or colour. Will ring my mate who works there later on. Will book test drive to see what I think.
