jimdiesel
Tyre manufactures are starting to put wear ratings on the sidewalls. I think the states have had these for a while. Quote: Also on the sidewall, you might find the following info embossed in the rubber. The temperature rating - an indicator of how well the tire withstands heat buildup. "A" is the highest rating; "C" is the lowest. The traction rating - an indicator of how well the tire is capable of stopping on wet pavement. "A" is the highest rating; "C" is the lowest. The tread-wear rating - a comparative rating for the useful life of the tire's tread. A tire with a tread-wear rating of 200, for example, could be expected to last twice as long as one with a rating of 100. Tread-wear grades typically range between 60 and 600 in 20-point increments. It is important to consider that this is a relative indicator, and the actual life of a tire's tread will be affected by quality of road surfaces, type of driving, correct tire inflation, proper wheel alignment and other variable factors. In other words, don't think that a tread-wear rating of 100 means a 30,000 mile tyre.

Avus_Bub
[ QUOTE ] On my previous A4 1.8T 190 Q (2004 04) believe it or not I got 34K on P Zero Rosso's doing mainly motorway miles, but that included a blast round Europe and a lap of the 'Ring. All of the tyres wore at almost exactly the same rate and were petty much illegal by 34K. It was a company car so you can imagine how I drove it. This seems to be heading for a record judging by this trheads comments! [/ QUOTE ] That's good to know Tizzy. Just checked mine and at nearly 11k there's still 5.5mm of tread left all round. I'd guess they had 7-8mm when new (also Rosso's) so with a bit of luck I should get close to your 34k......... BUB
kowalski
Got 0ver 16,000 on the (front) perili p zero's on my fwd s line, whichh suprised me as my boss moans he can't get more than 12,000 out of the fronts on his 1.9 tdi

lottiefox
Lets not mention tyres and turtles in the same place today. Went out to the car, admiring my clean wheels and spotted a "mark" on the rear offside tyre - when I looked closer, not a mark, a fecking great split. OMG. God knows how that happened, but I had to find an emergency tyre place that would respect the turtle (thank you Mr RS4 opposite for the tip!), so now several pounds worse off with a new rear tyre. Panicked about replacing just one but he said the other one was only about 1.5mm worn so one would be OK. He showed me the tyre, jeeeeeeeeeesus, split three quarters through, could have blown at any stage. He pushed down on it and it was gaping. But, asked him to look at the front....hence the reason for posting here...I've done 6700 miles - he reckons I've only got another 5,000 or so left . Conti Sport Contacts that came on the car when new. Looks like two new ones for the front in not too long, then when all four need doing its not the Contis! All in all, not a good tyre day. Top place in Warwick though, do racing cars and everything, treated the wheels with a LOT of respect. Time for tea and a sticky bun.

P_G
Ari, On the S4 the Conti's were crap, last 16,500 - 17,000 miles and on the front the shoulders were bald, although 2 track days done on those, one hard driving, one 'spirited' Have changed to GSD3's and still 6 mm all round, better grip and road noise. And I don't drive like Milo, roundabouts are made for going round at 60mph and above.
pablos4
My Conti's lasted just over 13k on the S4. Backs had a little left on 'em, but have just had GSD3s all round. Agree with PG, seems far quieter, less road rumble.

P_G
Give them a couple of hundred miles and warm them up good and you'll be amazed. Mine tends to 4 wheel drift now through longer corners than understeer that's how good the grip is.
