Depends on what you mean by "country house" and your budget. Stoke Park is very nice but stupidly expensive.

You won't go far wrong if you pop into Waterstone's and peak at an Alastair Sawday guide.

(I also swear by the Good Pub Guide - some of the nicer pubs (try the Horseguards at Tillington or the Wykeham Arms in Winchester) are better than most hotels and significantly better value for money.)

The Ultimate Break

Begin your romantic stay with a bottle of chilled Krug Champagne. A stunning arrangement of your favourite flowers will enhance the luxury of your Superior Suite.

A lavish afternoon tea will be served to you in your room or in the peaceful lounge before our gardener takes you on a personal guided tour of Le Manoir grounds.

For dinner, enjoy Raymond's acclaimed seven course Menu Gourmand accompanied by a selection of fabulous wines from our extensive cellars. Meet the team behind the scenes in Raymond’s state of the art kitchen.

Wake up at leisure the following morning and enjoy the best breakfast experience, reflecting both Le Manoir’s commitment to organic and holistic values and also the need for a celebration and indulgence. An exclusive gift bag of Le Manoir treats will be yours to take home as reminder of your stay.

Whether you are celebrating an anniversary, a special birthday or just fancy a night of sheer indulgence, we have created the ultimate overnight stay at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons for you.

Priced at £2,500 per night for two guests sharing a superior suite.
