Woppum
I remember the guy that owns Romans once told me he sold a limited edition 200k lambo to a hairdresser down the road. He lives in a small house and has no garage, but it was his life long dream. I don't know what happened to him, but the moral is people love cars!!! My parents were over the moon when I said I wanted to move back home..... dads even building a new garage for it! which I will pay for with the rest of the cash..... Deal was done yesterday, arrives september 2006 and who thought I couldnt get one I was offered one today also and on for april but I rather wait abit...... until im 26. Insurance comes out at 1800 per year I predict running costs as follows (estimates per year) Tyres £1000 Servicing £1000 Insurance £1800 Road Tax £200 Fuel £4000 Ermmmm 8k per year approx.... I`m sorry if I sound off about things and hope I didnt make people feel bad etc Riz [/ QUOTE ] And not wishing to pee on any man's bonfire...you need to add a minmum of £12k-£14k DEPRECIATION over the 12 months to the £8k you've accounted for already... Just out of interest how did you get to the £4k fuel bill Riz ? Gabster
I love the Boxster, but would I swop it for the times I have had in my house with my girl......God no way, its a thousand more times exciting and its free. My mom and dad are liberal but there is no way they would let me get up to, what I get up to on the kitchen sink on a Saturday afternoon with the Vicster. Riz you made a big error mate with depreciation you will be looking at £20k in costs a year on the RS4. You should rent out the flat to cover the mortgage and get a second hand 911 for £30k. You will never get back on the property ladder. While your lossing £1,500 - £1,800 a month on your RS4 house prices on a £150k flat are going up the same. With the depreciation on the car and the rise in house prices thats about £2,500 or £3,000k a month your slipping down the property ladder. Cars are cool but your own house is a thousand times cooler, and believe me they are more of a fanny magnet than a RS4, .........sorry to be politically incorrect......my partner calls me a geek for coming on here, and she liked my S3 better than the Boxster becuase of the heated seats, cars dont impress any woman you want to share your life. No girl I know will want to go out with a guy who sold a house to get a car, women are resourceful creatures they will think you are more of a cock boy than us committed petrol heads who think your being a prat. If you want to experiance life then do some travelling while your young, get yourself around the world that will live with you for ever. When ever I feel down or pissed I think of Arizona or my beautiful girl friend dancing round my lounge, not the Porsche. I love driving my Porsche, but its a hunk on metal like an ipod or a toaster and hunks of metal dont make your life better, love and memories do. Im young free and single, a woman shouldnt see what I have got, i.e. apartment or car etc.... I lady should like me for who I am and not what I have..... I didnt buy the RS4 to pull women etc.... I just like the notion of a RS4 with no fianance or debts..... will have enough money to go out more...... im only 25.... plenty of time to settle down.... I`m not a fella that goes the "norm" route... I like to buy different things etc always loved cars.... they dont get into fights with you or scream at you! At the moment ive chilled out alot as my health was suffering with the outrageous workloads at work, once ive got my car then I can ease up even more.... JamesB
Well, I can certainly understand missing having a quick car as I do miss the performance of my RS6 (even if the Fabia isn't bad) and, in weaker moments, think of buying another or similar. But there's a reason I got rid of it and that reason hasn't changed. If you really believe that your life has changed since the time you felt you had to lose the R32 and get a place of your own, then fair enough. If not then tbh, as a virtual friend I am concerned that you might regret it. However, it's not my life so I hope you prove everybody wrong, including me, never look back and love every single minute of owning such a fabulous car. You certainly will be in a fairly exclusive club as a 26 year old with an RS4. I dreamt of such things at 26 and in some ways admire you having the balls to go for it

A truely rounded personality.....God and I am a Brummmie gypo to. Riz Its not about having a material thing like a house when you love someone and want to be with them, you want to spend time together with out you mom and dad telling you to tidy your room or get out their way. I bet before September you will be whinning on about you made a big mistake, enjoy the car, but it wont make you sprititally complete like a good women does. Beleive me I have had some right stress with my partner, but I wouldnt swop her for the world, even when we have rowed solid for a week, and boy she is so firey, and boy can she row.....but when its good, and you feel totally connected mentally physically and spiritally its like being drunk on life, nothing can beat it. I dont mean to be personal but by doing this you show your materity and the reason you might be struggling with the chics. At least waste the money on a summer in Miami or go to Vegas, tell you what go to Seattle, hire a 911 and drive down to San Diego along the Pacific Highway, dont waste it on a collection of screws, washers, plastic, glass and chunks of metal. Remember the car is gong to cost you £2.50 pound an hour to own with depreciation and running costs, thats even when its sititng in the garage and your asleep. Riz
[ QUOTE ] How long do u think u will keep the car RIZ ? [/ QUOTE ]Well ive taken big hits on my previous cars and have promised myself this would be the last one..... so going to keep it aslong as possible... new garage and driveway is going to hopefully be built before it arrives.... im not a high mileage driver and would probably do 10k per year without any trackdays.... going to just get used to the car first. It will be well looked after as many know I can be quite extreme when keeping cars clean etc.... Besides.... what would I replace it with? I think anything that does sub 5 seconds is the peak for normal sports cars..... I was looking at a B5 RS4 but the best example I could find was £30k with 27k miles on the clock.... was temped but the B5 chassis, suspension wasnt the best from what I heard...... like the R32 I like cars to be acceptable out-of-the box.... Was in Manchester last night and saw a chap with a RS6 parked up.. had a chat with him etc and he rev`ed it.... omg the noise.. V8 I wouldnt say im a silly driver but im not one that brags about being the best etc.... having 420bhp under your foot isnt a small matter... so im in no rush to go onto tracks etc. I cant wait..... Scotty
Riz - I think you're totally missing the point about track days. They are the best place bar none to learn about your car. When I got the S4 the first thing I did was go to Bedford Autodrome and over drive the thing. I wanted to find out what it did if I overstepped the mark. Bedfords good as there's loads of run off. I discovered a fair bit there so when I went to the 'ring I wasn't suddenly surprised. The fact that you have 420bhp coming is the best reason there is to get in some track time. Why do you think some manufacturers insist on track training before selling some of their cars. Trackdays are about fun but more importantly they improve your driving abilities and also your understanding of the vehicle your driving. You really should do one as a priority once you take delivery.
Woppum
Id love to do a track day but the combination of silly insurance, worrying about other drivers and the fact your car may never feel the same again after a days thrashing totally put me off. There are still some good roads out there, I exploit them without being silly!
Gabster
Whats the point of having all that power without going on a track. I have been on a few with Audi which were pretty tame and a couple in the Boxster and a couple with my mate in his elise, and ok they do put more wear on your car but thats what the car is for. I never get to use the Boxster to its full capacity on the road so it was the only way to really see what the car was about. You will find when you get on a track the pose, weight distrubution, anmd handling of a car makes it fun not pure BHP. I went on tracks in a few Audis including an RS6 and never understood the fun a real wheel drive car was until I went on the track in my Boxster, OK the RS6 was very fast but not that much fun. I tell you the most fun I have had on a track and that was in a MX5 they are just so much fun, what are they 100BHP?
JamesB
[ QUOTE ] Whats the point of having all that power without going on a track. [/ QUOTE ] Haven't you just answered yourself? I never took my RS6 on the track as it isn't really a track car. The power was enormous fun day to day however.
