Auto boot opening retrofit?

Are you actually looking for the boot to fully open?

As you say, the boot will unlock and pop off the latch with a hold of the remote button. But you have to physically lift it to open it.

I'm not sure having it fully open on its own would be a good idea.

My Mercedes had this, and it was fantastic! Honestly it is the only thing I find missing from the A4 (so far)...

my mums lexus does it electronically - opens AND closes shut automatically - awesome and very posey.... well, we are in chavshire my darlings...!

I would have said something along the lines of upgraded struts would do this..... might go on an eBay / net trawl to see what i can find!!! My Avant struts are leaking anyway (common problem), so could be a good excuse!!! grin.gif

Iwas thinking about this also... Could be good; I borrowed an A6 sline saloon the other day and it was well useful when I was carring my laptop plus some other stuff but thought it could have a downside also as a couple of times I have pressed it by accident in the past and having the lid fly up would be annoying!. I assume this is a saloon mod only as the tailgate flying up would be dangerous/funny depending on your viewpoint and access to a paint shop!..

It was about £30 to spec it on my A4 so I assume the retrofit would be the same or cheaper....,

Anyone know specifically the part number out of that big list... I may go and ask for the 'muff' anyway!...

I'mthinking it would be a better mod on the saloon as you'd probably never risk the boot lid hitting anything.

If you did it on the Avant in a low/overhanging car park on in a garage, then the tailgate could hit something and be scratched.

No picture needed... this has happened to me twice at home now. The first time I must have accidentally held down the unlock button in my pocket and the doors unlocked and the windows went down about 2 inches. Luckily the auto-door-locking-thingy locked the car doors again, but when I went out the car in the morning, I found both windows open and it had only gone and rained overnight! SAUER0421.GIF

If that wasn't bad enough, I somehow managed to do it again about 2 weeks later, but this time the windows went completely down and we had a heavy frost overnight. So, the next morning I spent 30 mins defrosting the inside of the car (the dash was white!) and mopping up water when the windscreen finally defrosted... Honestly, I did know whether to laugh or cry! yelrotflmao.gifSAUER0421.GIFyelrotflmao.gifSAUER0421.GIF

I now make a point of removing my keys from my pocket when getting home from work!

...that aside, I've got issues with my boot opening, so this would be nice mod! smashfreakB.gif

sorry, i've not been around to reply. i shall try to take a photo of the little spring damper later on. basically, it's just a little spring mechanism which upon unlocking the boot, causes the boot door to overcome the initial inertia, afterwhich, the pneumatics (is this the right term?) take over to fully raise the boot.
