Looking to buy a couple of tanks. Quite happy to go with either steel or alum, but....

I have read ALOT about the dangers of Aluminium tanks and the potential to create Aluminium Oxide which can clog your reg etc.

Anyone got any advice??

Mac??

I've never heard that specific comment before. But I think corrosion will be an issue with both types of tank and simply requires proper care and maintenance to prevent it becoming an issue.

The only difference I've considered was the change in buoyancy as air is consumed. Which is why I have a steel one.

Steel tanks all the way. Ali tanks pose more of a problem with buoyancy when empty, and you can't put as much gas in them. I don't know anyone who dives with ali tanks (for back gas) in this country. The only time I see ali tanks used over here are for deco gas (I have 2 ali 7s, but ali 80s are also common).

I can't comment on the AliOxide issue, but you could try posting on Yorkshire Divers, you're sure to get an answer on there.
