Driving Shoe advice please...

With Spring/Summer coming along my mind has turned to wearing lighter shoes and I also find that I much prefer the feel of a thinner sole when driving.

Obviously there are driving shoes made by companies such as Puma but most look more suitable for the track. I'm afraid that even I, who normally wears all sorts of stuff which others would feel too self-conscious in, shrink at thinking I would look an absolute pratt getting out of my GTI wearing racing shoes.

I've got several items of clothing made by the American company Orvis and rate their quality very highly so I've spied their hand-sewn moccasin driving shoe. I'm used to wearing moccasins of one sort and another so no problems there.

The problem is that there isn't anywhere reasonably close who stocks Orvis so I can 'road test' a pair. Does anyone on TSN either know this shoe or have any experience or comment on its type based on the pic, please ?

Or any recommendations of other driving shoes for road rather than for track use, please ?

I have to admit that I drive in all sorts of shoes, at work I drive in boots, so I have to adapt to driving in not very suitable footwear.

That said, I find my adidas "goodyear" trainers very easy to drive in 169144-ok.gif

I dont think they look too "track" either 169144-ok.gif

I've got some shoes with a similar sole to the Orvis and find them a little bit of a pain, you can't smoothly move you foot on the peddles as the edges of the rubber blocks catch.

I'd go for something with a smoother sole or smaller "treads".

169144-ok.gif Thanks Andrew - That's exactly the kind of advice that only someone with experience could give 169144-ok.gif. The power of TSN!

I looked at the Addidas Goodyears this morning but they are a bit 'loud' visually though the soles are smooth. I need to see some Piloti Spyders, but where in the UK ?

Try a pair of size 12 steel capped boots, I have drove allsorts of cars/sports cars in them and i still think they are the best.

I've got some of those - by far the most comfortable shoes I own. Even went on a night out in them once, and the bouncers looked at me as if to say "we say no trainers, but steelies?" and let me in.
