RedRobin
With Spring/Summer coming along my mind has turned to wearing lighter shoes and I also find that I much prefer the feel of a thinner sole when driving. Obviously there are driving shoes made by companies such as Puma but most look more suitable for the track. I'm afraid that even I, who normally wears all sorts of stuff which others would feel too self-conscious in, shrink at thinking I would look an absolute pratt getting out of my GTI wearing racing shoes. I've got several items of clothing made by the American company Orvis and rate their quality very highly so I've spied their hand-sewn moccasin driving shoe. I'm used to wearing moccasins of one sort and another so no problems there. The problem is that there isn't anywhere reasonably close who stocks Orvis so I can 'road test' a pair. Does anyone on TSN either know this shoe or have any experience or comment on its type based on the pic, please ? Or any recommendations of other driving shoes for road rather than for track use, please ?
ian_m
I have to admit that I drive in all sorts of shoes, at work I drive in boots, so I have to adapt to driving in not very suitable footwear. That said, I find my adidas "goodyear" trainers very easy to drive in I dont think they look too "track" either
Sparky
Your highheels didn't help you when driving up to my place though, did they.
RedRobin
Cheers, Ian . I'll check the Adidas out and also see what other colours they do. Of course I cannot resist asking whether those boots you drive in are thigh boots! Obviously very unsuitable .

NeilB
I've got some Puma racing shoes somewhere, haven't worn them in ages. I normally drive in trainers but I drive in steel toe capped boots when going to and from from work.

badgera
I've got some shoes with a similar sole to the Orvis and find them a little bit of a pain, you can't smoothly move you foot on the peddles as the edges of the rubber blocks catch. I'd go for something with a smoother sole or smaller "treads".
RedRobin
Thanks Andrew - That's exactly the kind of advice that only someone with experience could give . The power of TSN! I looked at the Addidas Goodyears this morning but they are a bit 'loud' visually though the soles are smooth. I need to see some Piloti Spyders, but where in the UK ? [/ QUOTE ] I've got some of those - by far the most comfortable shoes I own. Even went on a night out in them once, and the bouncers looked at me as if to say "we say no trainers, but steelies?" and let me in.
mulkbear
I have done that much driving in them the right boot has a wear mark in the soul and the left one has a wear patch on the tip.

drpellypo
You get a pair of Piloti's for free when you buy a Passat in the US. Although, console yourself, because they get awful seats, and a nasty arial on the roof.
