In his post (within this thread) he didn't say that his Mum bought a F430, just the SL55 from Romans.

Unless he'd like to clarify of course beerchug.gif

grin.gif Sorry, 'on here' just meant on TSN - like here 169144-ok.gif

Thanks for that Bazza 169144-ok.gif

Forgive me though....and it's not with a trace of malice or jealousy...just curiosity.

I'd be interested to understand how someone who has debated to the very last hypothetical penny the potential purchase of a M3 CSL (here and on other forums) has parents who appear to not have any issue (and the means to acquire the base list price of two cars at c. £250k)with throwing a further £80k over the odds at their own cars...

Is it just me or does that not add up ?

Unfortunately my mum got I think the second one in the country and bought through Romans and she paid about 35k over list.

I think I read on here Wopp's mum paid £40k over list for her 430 too, so thata the best part of £80k down the drain

But my point is people do, its a business which at the time the SL came out was positively booming as I said I know for a fact it more than quadrupled the income of Romans and allowed tem to now stock 6 Enzos and millions of pounds worth of stock. I know they wont forget the SL as it made them!

beerchug.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Guess you got to see their accounts before and after the SL55 came out so know the itimate workings of that business...?

Is your surname Jaconelli ?

[/ QUOTE ]

Gareth im a very honest lad and if I was Jako a) id be the first one to tell you and b) I would already have a CSL with he number plate 2 JKO!

I am however friends with his son Ben who works there... That’s what I have been told, and its just obvious, at the time the 55 engine came out all they had were mercs going for way over list, and they were taking pole positions shifting the 360 Spyders (also conducting premiums) to one side!

Unfortunately my mum got I think the second one in the country and bought through Romans and she paid about 35k over list. According to them the first SL55 they sold was 40k over list! In fact it was the SL that made most of these 'premium' type companies. It was the first mass market commercial super car that was as usable as an automatic Micra... And everyone wanted one, no matter if you are a petrol head or someone that had never owned a sports car before (me mum). It is still a truely beautiful car and very very fast!

That’s nothing though! Romans first F430 Spyder went for a staggering £200k! I suppose it all depends if you are buying off an owner or through a specialist such as Romans with a showroom, where you pay the extra for top quality service and as many test drives as you want. 169144-ok.gif

yeah...righto.... coffee.gif

that's really worth chucking £35k/£40k down the Flush.gif for....

I managed to find her one of the first F430 Spyders at about 8k under what Romans was charging. The only cars she has bought from Romans are the 55 and SL65... 169144-ok.gif

I know its terrible. I handle her cars now 169144-ok.gif

You see until the SL55 came out she had an estate with virtually no interest in cars whatsoever. Then when the SL came out there were loads of articles in the newspaper about how fashionable it is for women to drive mens cars. The SL I suppose was in between and arguably the best looking car on sale at that time. She looked in the back of the Sunday Times and saw an advert for an SL500 in Romans and as there was a 2year wait at the time she tracked down there, and I came along for the ride 169144-ok.gif At first sight she loved it. It was brand new and very elegant. Of course I was in a completely diffrant world wobbling around dribbling on all the 360's and 550 Barachetta if I remember correct. However I did spot the SL55 and said that is what she had to go for. She drove the 500 first and loved it, said why would anyone need more power. Then I made her, with the help of the Jako's take out the 55 and the smile on her face when she came back explained it all. She was smitten. After that car the way she looked at cars changed. It wasnt just a commute to work ar a box to put the dogs in, it a was a little joy she would go outside, look at it and giggle (shes a woman) or go for long drives on the weekend.

Anyway my point is this. There was no way to tell she was going to be interested in the SL. After she found out she was interested, what was she going to do, wait 2.5 years or pay the price. She did and doesn’t regret it. The situation is the same for the Ferrari, she never thought she would be interested in a car like that, I gave her a push, took her along, she drove it and loved it. The 65 yes was bought through Romans, but was paid at list as there was no demand for them at all.

Now I know what she is interested in I keep a track and make sure she gets one of the first cars and she pays list. There are a couple in the pipeline as we speak wink.gif

Woppum, can i ask what your mum does for a living?

I am probably similar to you in that my parents aren't (or should i say weren't) that interested in cars, but have just persuaded her to get the new XK Convertible. Mum is harsh business lady though and has managed to talk the deal herself (i think the dealer principal actually retired early after mum bought her last car)! Anyway, its due in 2 weeks time, so just hoping i get to take it for a drive! Are you allowed behind the wheel of the 430?

500 launched April 02, 55 a few months later.

Where residuals are shows how fickle the market is. I had a new SL500 on 1st March 2003 cost £72k, ran it for a few months, dropped £4k, bought a new CLK500 Cab. That SL500 would now trade for about £32k - wow, £40k dropped in three years on a Merc.

The 55 is still deeply impressive but people have moved on. I'd have one tomorrow if the pass airbag was switchable as at £55k its a bargain.

Talking of vastly depreciating Mercs I financed a CL500 for a customer this week. 2001 X 40k ish on the clock (can't remember exactly), all extras including the seats with the fan in, satnav etc etc in that metallic/ pearlescent maroonish colour, AMG alloys. Car supplied by a reputable independent with full Merc serice history: £19,995.

Not my bag but a lot of metal for your money!!

Ahh you got the Z4M already I see. You gonna write a review, id love to hear it 169144-ok.gif

Ragg trade is just the ye old name for the fashion business or buying and selling clothes via retail. Its what im in too, but she has had the benefit of being in the business since she was about 14 and she is still working just as hard now. In fact that's the same with my dad too who is now 80, I dont think he understands what take it easy mean! Does she use the power of the car, no you just cant on the road. But you dont actually need to to have fun with it. Its like a go kart you feel and hear everything and just pootling down the road with the top down in the sun is enough to make her think her life long slog has been worth it. 169144-ok.gif

Gallery is impressive btw smile.gif!

Yep that's at Wood's brother is mates with Paul so I've been up a couple of times. Im not keen really on Rolls and Bentley's but you have to appreciate the stuff they do to the cars. The Navy blue Phantom was the first in the country and was his demo. When he took us for a ride in it he was driving at like 90 down these tiny little roads, it was just surreal in a car like that...

I'll have a look at your review, if you haven't already seen it there is one in the centre of the Sunday Times Driving section... it will be on the website if not 169144-ok.gif

P.S mum is 60, but keep it hush sekret.gif169144-ok.gif

My old man is the same, I am sure he lives to work where as I work to live and he really doesn't get that at all.

We have a footwear agency selling to retailers around the country, he will have his first appointment at 9am, appointment 2 at 12pm and then squeeze another one in for 5pm and get home at 9, 10, 11pm at night. Me? I make my first one for 11.30am and another for 2pm and get home before 8pm. smile.gif

I also have a clothing and footwear shop and I make sure I am out by 6pm, there is always so much to do, but you have to make time for the fun things in life otherwise what is the point?

I live just down the road from P & A Woods and saw that blue one heeps when it first came out! Takes up far too much of the road (well the country roads round here anyway)! Impressive showroom though hey? Although i haven't had the privelage of going inside! Your dads a lucky sod, i will be well happy to have someone 20 years my junior at that age, respect!

Z4M was just on TG if you saw it?
