PhilT
As you are probably aware RS246 has a close relationship with Audi. Earlier today I spoke with Tom, and he advised the following: - The Audi dealer network was advised via Audi Desktop on the 18th Dec. - Letters will be sent to Audi owners with RNS-E systems on the 15th Jan. - If you have RNS-E and have not received a letter by the end of Jan, then you should go to your local Audi dealer and quote part number 8PO 060884 M. - It is likely that you will be expected to hand over your existing Sat Nav DVD. Most of all I would like to urge people not to contact Tom directly. There should be sufficient information here for your to progress the issue with a reputable Audi dealership. Here is the thread on RS246 - http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=57668
chasdrury
[ QUOTE ] Based on the above, it means I can retrofit an RNS-E, ring the dealer and get a brand new TMC disks supplied for free. This I've got to see. [/ QUOTE ] This is confirmed with Sheffield Audi (where mine is booked in) and Chesterfield Audi are both doing this.... neilp
[ QUOTE ] 3) For the first time the RS6 Plus has been mentioned as being included in the upgrade. [/ QUOTE ] Dave, I questioned this with Tom Peterkin and he confirmed that the upgrade was applicable to all models that had RNS-E as a factory option so that includes previous generation A6/S6/RS6/Allroad
P_G
When calling today for an update on whether my car would get the update when in for its 2nd AVS on Monday, I have been told that the disks are supposedly available from January 23rd onward. My local dealer is hoping to have the first few then, but said the upgrade is until July so no rush, i.e. we are going to have limited numbers so wait your turn. [/ QUOTE ] THAT'S why I did my own thing!!! I've been waiting since March 2005 for TMC to work (that's when I first had an Audi with an RNS-E - my previous S4 had an RNS-D and TMC has worked on that since 2004!). I'm doing a lot of driving at the moment and need/want TMC now, not sometime between now and July! And I DO have TMC working now. P.S. My dealer also continues to deny all knowledge of the TMC upgrade - even when shown the text of the memo from Audi UK!!!
VTEC_Killer
Update from my local stealer: They are saying the new disk is FOC but there is a charge of £100+vat for labour. I'm fire fighting with them on the labour charge; they argue the upgrade takes 30 - 45 mins and need VAG-com to program it too! What a load of boll**ks - I told the 'I haven't a clue ' service reception lady that the process is self automated and takes 10 mins!!! So I just said to her to send the me the disk and I'll do it myself . . . I'm awaiting her callback! Sheraz

[/ QUOTE ] Saying it needs VAG-COM (or VAS which is what the dealer would use) is complete rubbish. The Audi UK memo says: [ QUOTE ] Any labour costs incurred in the fitment of the disc cannot be recovered and will need to be paid for by the Centre. [/ QUOTE ] Note it does NOT say charged to the Customer - any attempt to charge a customer for what Audi UK have described as warranty work is IMHO completely unacceptable
Vertigo1
If they insist on trying to charge you for the labour then, when they have the disc in, get them to watch while you insert it into the RNS-E in their carpark. You'll most likely find it just upgrades everything and works but there's a chance it could ask for the PIN. If it does then just demand they call Germany and get the PIN for you - they'll have a job charging you £100 for labour for one phone call! Vertigo1
Actually Dave, the dealer's ignorance could work in your favour. When you get the letter from Audi about the upgrade, book yourself in and put your old 2006_1 disc back in (i.e. TMC will stop working). Let the dealer insert your new, free 2007 disc and hey presto, TMC will start working! The dealer will be too stupid to realise that it never went through a software update first. Then hand your 2006_1 disc to them and drive away. Hey presto, you now have a spare 2007 disc set which you can flog on ebay
craigyb
Or just downgrade your RNS-E first, simple enough to do with VAG which Dave has.
kite
Just taken a call from my dealer. Looks like they have done some digging He is going to order disc's for my car and call back when they arrive to arrange a date. I told him the car is out of warrenty, he told me its not a concern. Hope retro fit isn't either

paul_tdi
Guys Just been to Poole Audi today only to be informed that as mine is a retrofit unit they will not give me the discs! Seems to be the luck of the draw with regard to retrofitted units. Will try another stealer see if they are more forth coming! May be worth starting a list of places where people with retrofitted units are having more success?

VTEC_Killer
Hurray!! Just had a call back from the dealer - the disk will be FOC with no costs incurred to me I was also given an apology (too right) as the stealer had got it wrong! The disk will be in stock from the 22nd; they will call me before hand to either book the car in or to either pick the disk up or for them to post it to me and do it myself Finally!! 2 week wait now . . . . .
