collease
Do you smoke in your car? If so do you use your ashtray? The other question is do you let others smoke in your car?

Torino101
3x NO I have suddenly realised while thinking about this I have very very few friends who smoke, so it isn't usually an issue.
Problem_Child
I have had a smoker in my car- he cranked down the window, sparked up and then looked at me staring at him open mouthed. "What?" He said. He's not been in it since.

patently
If someone wants to smoke in my car then that's ok. So long as they accept that I drink from time to time. So if it's ok for them to waft their smoke around my car and my clothes, it's also ok for me to pi55 on their lap when they're driving me somewhere. collease
So if we take you as the steryotypical smoker and say that very few will use an ashtray for what it is there for why have them in the car in the first place. surely it would be better to make them a better designed storage space. NewNiceMrMe
I'd never dream of asking anyone else if I could smoke in their car, or their house. Even if I was in a pub I'd ask if anyone minded if I lit up, and even then I'd have to know them well otherwise I'd just go outside.

smurfette
I don't smoke and neither do most of my friends. I wouldn't allow anyone to smoke in my car. One thing that did annoy me was that my car came with a 'smokers kit' as standard, ie cigarette lighter and huge ashtray. I really want to rip it out and fit a cup holder - would have been much more useful. I'm guessing they had a surplus of these 'smokers kits' which used to be an extra cost when buying the car so they've decided to fit them as standard and charge a fortune for the cup holder instead!
