pontyslapper
I'm a supply teacher and today in a school I was 'asked' to apply for a non teaching position that would mean I'd be on 4k less than what I'd get in a full year of teaching. The positives... no teaching, no shite, no marking The negatives... less $£€, student loan payback As it stands so far this term I had the following 3 days in September, 13 in October and about 10 in November. That equates to about £3.5k gross. In terms of days its over average for this year based on what other supplies in the area have had. Do I bite the bullet, take this non-teaching thing as a stopgap and keep looking for the non-existant teaching jobs, or do I hope that the supply stuff picks up? What would you do? pontyslapper
South Wales - the average teaching job gets close on 100 applicants. 30k mortgage says we ain't moving - I'm liking the quality of life - holidays in France every half term without fail etc. I'd hate to be in the position of working my knackers off just to pay the mortgage. As it is 3 days sorts that, the rest of the bills come from wifey's job and we eat, drink and live well.

[/ QUOTE ]No I had money saved up but not 100% required for the RS4. I didnt want to borrow more money either. So was selling my apartment and moving back home for awhile to sort out my mess, decided against it and the money I has saved up was needed elsewhere, not for me though, for family. Still things have turned out ok. Riz
pontyslapper
The outcome was... I took the lower paid job. Start on Jan. 8th as Workload Manager, but have been 'practicing' with outgoing bod for this week on full supply money. Its gonna be stressful, and I'll have to get mega organised and regimented, but I think I'll enjoy it and have a bigger office than the Head, with a microwave, kettle, coffee machine, fridge/freezer and of course 2 PCs, one work and one 'play'!! sparkly
As another teacher - at 4k less than the teaching job and in a separate role I would take it in your position. I have done supply before a few years ago but there was plenty of work avaliable then. I could have worked most days if I wanted to. I know the situation is very different now with the use of cover supervisors. I wouldn't accept a job as a cover supervisor or teaching assistant as a teacher but as for another position in a school that is stand alone- it could end up being a good move! Depending on your subject you could do some private tuition which would bump up the difference? Good luck with your new job!
pontyslapper
Sparkly, I will be responsible for the following... Supply cover - booking and organising Examinations - I will be the examinations officer Serco Administrator - In charge of the ePortal/Facility system - well user side stuff anyhow. Quite challenging, but as long as I keep on top of the huge amount of paper involved, shouldn't be too bad. Just need to remind myself that an identical job was advertised in a school about 10 miles away for 15k! The woman who was doing the job was head hunted for a major educational supplier, and will be getting 30k, and all the usual company perks like car, moby and laptop... who knows!
