Wopps,

Forget the Gruppe M - its just too loud for the amount of mileage you will do. There is a noticeable droan at 2,500 rpm.

Your best bet will be the supersprint racebox (altough this is also quite loud) or miltek full system.

I'd try experimenting a bit, try first the race box from supersprint, then if its not too loud add the X-pipe and then maybe even cats.

Do a search on here, its been discussed before and has part numbers etc beerchug.gif

Well I am glad you have all been saying forget GruppeM as I have. Dealing with them today I have found out:

They have no Uk distributor - what happens if the pipe falls off!

It will cost close to £3k to deliver and fit.

I have been dealing with Japan all day!! - there is a 4wk lead time...

I dont want it too loud your right. It will loose the subtle edge the car has, which I like.

I have ordered a SuperSprint system. I have the racing, lightweight back box, coupled with a silenced straight through section. Hopefully it wont be too much louder than stock, but more purposeful and without that metallic rattle. Might get a slightly better throttle response too... or is that wishful thinking! Anyway it may be steel, and weigh about 15kg more than the GroupeM, but its virtually half the price fitted and servicing wont be a problem.

I was told each pipe is 80mm. Im dead excited!! 169144-ok.gif

I used 'Eurostyling' in Silverstone if anyone is interested. They were very helpful and were happy to bounce back off my e-mails very quickly throughout the day.

I got my brother the SuperSprint ST for his RX-8 for a Birthday/X-mas present! Not bad considering ive had nothing off him for the last few years!

Ill post pics as they come through! 169144-ok.gif

Chris you think I should go for the X-pipe? Im just wondering if I will regret it if teh noise isnt that diffrent with the silenced mid section? I dont want it so loud I give everyone I drive past a stroke, but enough to remind me everytime I bury the throttle this is a special special car!

Right, I need a quick bit of advice.

I still want the supersprint lightweight racing box, however im thinking if I get the cat back system, will I need the centre section too? If so will the centre section connected to the cats be silenced?

My other option, if the cats dont come with a centre section is get the cats and back box, but keep the standard CSL mid section. But will this fit? My guess is it wont!

I am now thinking of buying through Simpson Motorsport (pics of cats are included). I have e-mailed them the question and asked if they have the parts in stock, but they wont get back to me tonight, so if any of you guys know it would be greatly appreciated!

Well im glad I amuse you all so much! wink.gif

I got a fantastic reply from Simposns this morning answering all my questions in 1. However I have just mult-mapped them and they are well over 100 miles away from where I live. I could take a day out to do this. But im going to be seriously jet lagged. The driving doesnt bother me its the waiting around while its fitted. If I found somewhere closer to home i could go back and wait for it to be done. They seem very very reputable though so im going to try and work it out. I want it fitted really on the weekend of the 6th.

Regarding the cats. Its so much money for so little. I dont think I can justify getting that too. Its just not sensible. Especially if it makes it even noisier. I think ill stick with the racing box and silenced mid section...

Sam,

Thankyou for your enquiry regarding the supersprint exhaust.

The system we sell most of comprises the lightweight racing rear silencer, the centre pipe with resonator and the 100 cell cat conversion.

The 100 cell cats allow the car to pass mot and emmisions tests, the decat pipe does not and also can cause the engine light on the dash to illuminate - this part is really for racing only.

The centre pipe with resonator helps keep the system quiet enough for daily use and reduces the drone that some systems without this can give.

The lightweight rear silencer not only saves significant weight but also sounds great at lower rpm and gives a deeeper note to the exhaust. As for actual noise levels this is very difficult to guarantee as different circuits have different ways of measuring and noise levels can vary also with different ambient conditions.

We have run a csl in this configuration at many track days and have only been pulled in a couple of times - once at bedford and once at donnington where they had measured on "drive by" - on both occasions we were tested and passed statically and were allowed to continue.

We have not heard of any of our customers having had problems though.

The parts are usually in stock, if not they are usually next day. I will check our stock (as i think the system we have in at the moment is sold) and the stock at supersprint to see if next thursday or friday is ok. These days are fine for us as fitting does not take long.

I hope this is of some help, please call or e mail if you have further questions.

Regards,

Woppum I will be interested in hearing your car after you've had the exhaust fitted.

talking about mods - I'm considering some of these - Carbon Brake Cooling Ducts - anyone any experience of them?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have never heard of anyone getting these. They do look interesting and a good alternative to going for the full AP conversion.

I think im going to leave the brakes alone to begin with. Once I have sorted out my tracking - insurance then later experience and I find the brakes really arn't up for the job, then I will probably consider the AP route. At the moment I cant justify them as the stock brakes seem to be more than enough for the road. 169144-ok.gif

Have to agree with Woppum on this, the brakes are perferctly fine for me on the roads. Perhaps if you do lots of track miles you'll need to upgrade, I can't see me needing to spend £3k on AP's or even that carbon brake thingy.

Thorney specialize in Miltek so I wasnt going to ask for a pipe they didnt supply, otherwise that will be an obvious choice.

However Im going to bundle the day in with work. My plan is to organise a car when I arrive, go to a couple of towns and do a bit of work, with plenty of time to get back to Simpsons, pick the car up, and roll with laughter at the noise im making on the 100+ mile hurdle home. Im making a day of it. Besides im really interested in seeing their operation. I want to ask, dare I say it, about the Supercharger option too. Just out of interest of course... 169144-ok.gif
