Nintendo shortages

Apparantly the country has run short of Wii and DS Lite's in the run up to christmas. Punters who want one are having to pay well over the odds for them..

surely this is a big mistake for nintendo?.. they must be missing millions of pounds in revenue, and that must go for the retailers too..

bad planning on their part.

I think they made all that they possibly could. They have far outsold PS3 / Xbox360 in the first few weeks of sale so for them its a hit.

Lets face it they have done a far better job than Sony at least they have done a global release and in significant numbers on the Wii.

You can still get the DS if you look about for it, I think for they they have done incredibly well. 169144-ok.gif

the Wii is available in limited numbers each day at the game shops, unfortunately for me my mrs has been at the wrong shops at the wrong time, or just outright lied to by shop staff.

example: yesterday was told shop x had no Wiis after queing for it to open for 30 mins and left.

today waiting at same shop was told by someone else in queue that they had 6 yesterday but person in queue missed out as there were more than 6 people in the queue... all this 5 mins after my mrs had just asked.

There are loads on ebay though, and if nintendo get a big shipment in after Christmas some people with 3 or more wiis on ebay will be out of pocket. There is one seller on ebay who has sold 100! That has to be a retailer holding shop stock for a quick profit.

feck it, I'll wait and sulk on Christmas day tongue.gif

Although I've admitted I wish I'd bought a couple to flog on ebay, I think this is taking the piss. I actually think ebay should step in and prevent people from doing this. Haven't Sony/Ebay prevented people from selling PS3s?

I made the mistake of believing Nintendo would be able to keep up with demand and no pre-order frown.gif ah well. But like you Sponge, if I had aquired one or two then I would have ebayed 1.

From what i understand, Nintendo hasn't got the huge pockets of Sony/Microsoft. As such they had to do a fine balancing act of producing enough to meet demand, yet not going over budget.

The Wii had better stock than both 360 and PS3, and managed a more successfull worldwide launch, so the smaller company showed the big boys how its done notworthy.gif

you'd find that there were none left if you tried sekret.gif

I did try, and it was ready to 'checkout', I only stopped at the very last 'click'. There's none left now, but there definitely was earlier - people who tried after me have secured theirs for delivery tomorrow. 169144-ok.gif

Amazon seem to be releasing the new ones in batches.

If you want one, keep an eye on HotUKdeals forum. There's always a mention on there when they go back into stock anywhere.

I went for a Wii Play in Argos this morning. In stock, purchased and stood at the collections waiting. My number was shouted out and as he was checking for the serial number I realised they were about to give me a brand new console instead of the game/remote. He just checked the reciept against the code on the box before he found out.

That could have been a right mess for someone's pre-order! blush.gif
