kenny_boon
Hi all, i was wondering is there much difference in the two cars? obviously looks wise yes but have many other things been rivised and better for the B7 S4?
Merlot
No one seems to really know. Some people say the B7 has the 40:60 torque split, the engine mounted further back and revised suspension. Other people are less sure. Audi are particularly unclear on this. Tizzy
Be more informed replies along soon, but ASFAIK the styling was the only major difference. The standard exhaust went to a quad pipe system that apparently sounds much meatier than the B6 (unless you have Milltek's of course). The engine and running gear are exactly the same. The most notable improvements would be the revised ESP v.8 and the Xenons became bi-xenon with xenon main beam as well - B6 is just dipped beam. rottenbend
I'm pretty sure it's only the RS4 that gets the 40:60 torque split but I have been known to be wrong in the past!
kenny_boon
oh do B7s have bi-xenons? cool. from what i thought they were mostly the same other than what has been listed by Tizzy but i wasnt sure
Milo
None of the B7 A4s or S4s have bi-xenons; they are normal xenons and the the main beam is a reflector.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. The only other cars to have it are the S6, S8 and Q7 but so many people go on and on about how the B7 is better than the B6 without realising that for the S4, the changes are cosmetic only. EssFour
As above. Whether its a B6 or B7 the most important differentiator is the colour. The black ones are much faster...

PetrolDave
There's been lots of discussion on AudiWorld about the torque split. The conclusion they came to is that 2007 model B7s do have the 40:60 torque split, but 2006 models don't. Personally I'd go for a B7 (having owned 2 B6's) because I like the quad exhaust pipes, the auto wipers and the 2 rear fog lights - none of which you can get on the B6. ashleyadam
Just to add to that dave you also need silver to go faster.
Will22
All you lot know notting about Audis, you just say stuff without having a clue. I know from my vast experiences with all types of Audis going back to cars that are over 20 years old to brand new cars that noggy ones are the fastest, even when stoped

Dave
[ QUOTE ] The B7 platform S4 is the most recent version of the vehicle, having debuted in late 2005. Although Audi classifies it as a new car, the differences between it and the outgoing B6 S4 are primarily cosmetic. Audi has, however, made a few notable changes, including adding new springs and dampers to the suspension and re-calibrating the quattro system to maintain a 40:60 front-to-rear torque split under normal conditions. The system is continuously adjustable though, and the torque split can change depending on driving conditions. The new "corporate/fish mouth" grill, narrow headlamps, "L" tail-lamps and quad exhaust tips help distinquish the B7 from the previous B6 model. Dave
Thanks guys, i think i prefer the quad.. I was looking at a quad option when i had the RS6.. Abt was in the process of making one.

P_G
I thought the rear suspension set up was different on the B7 S4 to B6 S4, trapezoidal compared to double wishbone?

Merlot
Mind you I don't blame people for being confused. Even the wonderful Audi website says that the S4 has the 350PS V8!!! http://www.audi.co.uk/audi/uk/en2/new_cars/a4/s4_avant/technology.html
