Markallain
Cheers Olih - Shame it doesn't really say much. I'd like to have known where the photo was taken. Perhaps it is a design study of the car in it's pretty much final form?
silentandy
But doesn't the Passat R36 have DSG?
dharr999
Wasn't the problem that the 3.6 Engine and DSG gearbox would not fit in the engine bay? maybe they have given up on that and are just offering manuals!
Calm Chris
The Passat will have DSG, but the engine / gearbox ECU have been tweaked to avoid torque popping the DSG box. Something silly like a rev limiter, which sorts of defeats the 280-300 bhp engine output. The R36 mill has always been designed for a larger engine bay than the MkV, for this reason alone you will never see an R36 in MkV format. The issue is both manual and DSG, not just DSG boxs. Ian_G
I was in getting my wing mirror fixed today and spoke to the salesperson about my deposit on an R36 3.6 DSG. As far as they are concerned this is still on the cards. I have to totally believe this because the pics clearly show that they've listened carefully to 2 of my gripes by replacing the pig ugly grille and fitting fog lights. charding370
Oli, Have you seen the wheels shown in the other pics? Same car as in the Worldcarfans photo. Looks real enough. Chris
ashleywater
Would like to pass on some comments on the R36 saga, for whats it's worth, just my own personal opinions of course, so basically about as much use to anyone,as a chocolate watch, but here goes: I have run up 3K on the 265 S3 now, and feel that I have a good comparison between the merits of a possible R36 V6 Golf versus the 4 pot RSI version. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what version we will eventually see, if any back end of this year. I will personally be passing over the V6 version if it appears, but would sell various bits of my anatomy for a 280ps 4wd version with the 4 pot. The only criticism I have of the new S3 is quite simple... It aint a performance variant of a Golf in shape..........shoe horn the running gear off the new S3 into a recaro'd suitably shod Golf add 15 ps, 35 would be the DB's and peeps, you would have one hell of a motor.......... I have always loved Vees, shoved my first V8 into a long nosed henry many moons ago,but there days are numbered, taxation, environmental concerns, depreciation will be the death knell for big lumps.........they are the Dinosaurs of our time, extinction is not far away............ I am not going to cry about it .................then again Just as long as those feckers at VW come out with an RSI 4 pot churning out 280-300 ps driving all 4 wheels......... I for one will be an extremely happy bunny........ If it doesn't materialise the S3 will be a fixture for the forseeable future........trouble is I am a Golf fanatic always have been since my MK1 GTi days......... Just keeping my fingers crossed I can rejoin the fold later this year

S3Rob
280ps S3 engine in a golf = great car. You've got to love this horsepower war though. In 10 years we'll all be running 2.5 TSi's pushing 400hp weighing probably 1400kg!! That I am looking forward to.

[/ QUOTE ] Why do you say that? The pictures on worldcarfans, which are definitely not photoshopped, are evidence that there will be another high performance golf V. Whatever name VW decides to name it, be it RS, R36 or whatever, it will definitely be of a higher performance level compared to the R32.
