nicknick
I drive an A6 but have think I've seen some A4 avants (when on the motorway etc) that have a mesh (like a sun shade type of mesh) on what is the retractable dog guard on an A6. Is this my imagination or is it an option ?
Avus_Bub
No not an option, standard. It's built into the luggage cover that's slotted onto the rear seats. I drive with mine up all the time.
nicknick
So the mesh cover is standard on A4s as opposed to the football goal netting style on the A6? I wonder why ?....
TD1MAN
It's not really a dog guard, more of a restraint net, I'd imagine the average pooch would soon chew it through, if you want a dog guard I'd purchase a mesh one built for the job Cheers
lesK
It's an option I think I have it on mine, but think it was part of an option pack
Avus_Bub
[ QUOTE ] It's an option I think I have it on mine, but think it was part of an option pack [/ QUOTE ] It wasn't an option on my 05 (54) car. It was just built into the cover/blind. I take mine right out when the dog goes in the back. Gives him a bit more room (Large Lab'). BUB
AvantSE
It has been on both my A4s and is definitely not an option. The Audi dog guard is a separate item, about £200 worth of metal grille which fits perfectly. The one fitted as standard is a load restraint, which also works when the seats are folded down, fitting into another pair of slots in the roof just behind the front seats. DanG
By the way, the standard one fitted in my B7 is useless at keeping dogs in the boot... It has substantial, like 8 inch, gaps at the sides....
Daz
But it's not a dog guard, it's a load restraint. The proper dog guard is a metal grille, not a retractable one.
Sponge
I have it on mine and use it when I have lots of stuff in the boot, i.e. to prevent stuff flying into the cabin in the event of a crash, etc. I assumed it was part of the load/storage pack I have fitted. nicknick
My fault - a very badly worded post....let me try again. Last night I wanted to call it a "load something" but couldn't think of the word hence I used dog guard. What I was trying to say is that I have seen on some A4's that the retractable load restraint is made of mesh (i.e covered in a material similar to a car sunshade) ..whereas on my A6 it is just netting. ...and I was interested in finding out if this mesh (as opposed to netting ) was an option or just the way all A4's come.... The only reason I ask is that it looks like it might srve a dual purpose - load restraint or also a a type of privacy screen - i.e something that I can see out of (through rear view mirror) but is less easy to see into ( when sat behind in a car etc) .... Is this what it is ?

JimLoskot
In the handbook, it refers to it as a sun screen. I would question its usefulness as a privacy screen
maersk
It does render photographs, from a distance, taken from behind a little fuzzy.............................. If you catch my drift.

Also acts as a kind of auto-dimming mirror at night too as lights dazzle less through it!

The demo I drove had the mesh/net/blind pulled up and I've had mine the same from day one.

nicknick
Have got this sorted....bought some mesh type fabric and have fitted it over the football goal netting on my A6 ...just fitted it in the car and whilst it's dark right now it looks pretty good but will double check in the morning ....
