new new MINI - have they lost it?

I used to really quite like the new MINI, could get quite excited about the idea of a Cooper S.

But I keep seeing the new version of it about and it just looks wrong to me.

It looks like a bad kit car copy... crazy.gif

No that is the new MINI, there is a newer version.

We had one as a loan (admittedly a Cooper not the S) but it was not as good as our current or previous MINI. Interior not as well finished and the car looks too big and underwheeled even on 18s.

It's been altered in proportion to fit to pedestrian safety stuff, that's the main reason it looks a bit wierd. But underneath there are lots of small changes that, from I can tell, make it much better. Like the rear suspension isn't just the padding in the rear seats!

A mate has a new new one for his business. I had a look and I don't like what they have done with the interior, the switches all look really nasty and cheap now and in a weird position.

It all looks too high as well and the proportions are wrong compared to the old new mini. I understand the drivings not quite as good either.

I see a future for Mk1's as Classics.

Looks the same to me!

most of the reviews I've read have been focused mainly at the LACK of difference from the old one to the new one.in terms of styling and they say have also mentioned the 'S' isn't as sharp to drive and doesn't feel as nimble as the out going S.

They're still great cars (or better than the old new mini mechanically), but the re-design has just gone a bit Pete Tong...

Bulging eyes and everything is bigger than it should be, like the door mirrors and the speedo. Apparently it's now the size of a small planet.

I agree, and we had one of the new MINIs just after they came out!! There's one just down the road from us, on a 56 plate, and I've only just realised its the new version grin.gif

I agree it looks odd, in fact it looks like it's on stilts confused.gif

Couldn't agree more 169144-ok.gif

Followed a Cooper S the other day and the rear end just didn't look right at all. The exhaust looked a bit exposed/lonely and generally the whole rear just didn't fit.

Unless it's a personal plate then it's not the new version, they've only been out a few weeks I think.

It went on sale November 18th 2006 according to the news section of mini.co.uk... here ,which rather supports the view that no one can tell the difference between old and new. Its been on sale for 6 months...and no one's noticed grin.gif

I had another look at the new new MINI parked down the road today; it's still not obvious to me what's changed externally, though the grill bit on the side of the wing looks a litle different. Interior has changed though... It looks like BMW have achieved the impossible - the plastics look even worse than on the original. Well, not the original, but the original new MINI... I think I might be confusing myself now confused.gifgrin.gif

Girlfirend got a new 'New' Mini Cooper S on 15th Jan 2007 in grey and black.

And she really didn't like it - 'its too tall, generally too big and had gone all grown up. It doesn't look nice any more and its not fun'

I thought she was a bit......... confused.gif

So 2 months later it has been chopped in for a new Cooper S Convertible (they have not changed this to the new model yet).

And do you know what, she was right. Much nicer and loads more fun.

And the dealer have said that she is by no means the first person to say the same thing and switch back.
