New Mercedes C Class

Sat in this the other week. I thought the interior was a bit of a let down tbh. Seems made to a bit of a budget, although in actual build quality I suspect it's a step forward.

The seats are amazing though, so comfortable - just as a Merc should be.

That C63 AMG will surpise a few new M3 drivers no doubt. Surely it's just a remap away from 520hp as well.

Launch at my local dealers last wee. There was a steady stream of test pilots.

Also like the looks, mercedes have got this one right.

One of our reps is due to report back to me. She drives the current C220 CDi and has been invited to the launch. She likes it's looks, so after a drive she will let me know!

I think it looks great - like a shrunk CL - but I just wish it wasn't so damn heavy. The 3 series is a lump at circa 1550kg but this new C is up around the 1750 to 1800Kg mark!!

Which means that even with the 270Bhp odd 3.5 litre petrol - it's still not exactly rapid..... which is a shame. The similarly priced 335 BM will run rings round it dynamically.

But then maybe i'm missing the point! UHOH7.GIF

You would think so, but a good few mags have been very complimentary about the way it drives - will be interesting to see a group test.

I've not been a Merc fan for a long time (I used to be), but the new C-Class and CL-Class look the muts nuts, imo - the previous designs have been far too conservative. The C and CL give them both a bit of aggression, which they need next to a BMW or an Audi.

I quite like the look of it but don't want to get one as too many people I know say the service is terrible and the reliability even worse.

And they appear to be heavy and quite slow despite the power outputs of the engines. Seems strange in these eco friendly times when each new model is getting light not heavier they haven't addressed that. smirk.gif

Erm...according to the websites the C-Class weighs the same as the 3 series

C-Class

3 Series

hmmm.... Quoted weights and actual test weights seem to be an entirely different thing these days....

The most notable recent culprits of this seem to be Alfa and Jaguar, who's quoted kg figures were massively under the final tested mass.

I suspect that this may be the case with the Merc also, as the few tests I have seen for the C350 so far have had it up above 1700kg.

The Merc is probably more susceptible to weighty options packages as fitted to fully loaded press cars. I suspect that accounts for a lot of the weight.

Still misleading for the buyer though.

Another "Taxi come REP mobile" build quality has to take a major step forward before I'll ever look at one again, and in the performance stakes, "they just can't put in down" more and more power that it just can't use!!!! so whats the point "pissing contest winner" but on the road LOOSER. smashfreakB.gif

I made a beeline for it at Geneva as I really like the car's looks, and on balance I'd say that overall the build quality does appear to be markedly better than the last C-Class (not difficult I know!)

The interior is a bit of a let down though IMHO. The 'Daimler Chrysler effect' is clearly evident - too much in the way of cheap low-rent plastics etc. in use throughout. I actually preferred the E90 BMW interior in terms of materials quality and fit/finish.

Call me biased - Mercedes Benz could learn about interior fit and finish by looking at a 2001 (B6) A4! tongue.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

Quite - six years old now and the B6/7 interior is still best in segment. You could call me biased too, but the fact is it's one of the reasons I prefer Audis in the first place.
