wiseman405
Hi there, I have a B6 Audi S4. There are hundreds of tyres out there and i am not sure what to go for. I am wanting a hardwearing sports tyre, i have been advised the eagle F1, but some reviews arn't great for those tyres on the S4. Thanks Tom
TDiAvant
Michelin Pilot Sport 2 they were great on my S4, and I've got them on my RS4, I just cannot fault them. Great grip in wet and dry conditions, and I'm getting about 18K miles out of a set.
wiseman405
Thanks for the quick reply. What site or company usually are the cheapest? (or most efficient) Thanks Tom EDIT: Without sounding lazy. Could you please fish me a link. Just looked on Black circles, and there are different types. Like N3.... Tyre Size: 235, 40, 18 Thanks once again Tom
Ian_C
Eagles are fine on the S4 with 18s - various pilots here love them, John Carter, Sam Dalton, Pincher being the first that spring to mind - but it is widely agreed the sidewalls are not strong enough for the heavier, mega low profile 19" alloy (B7) RS4 and RS6. EssFour
Eagles fitted to mine. If you want long lasting the Continentals Sports 3's will do the job. Personally I do not like them. Too hard.
TDiAvant
That's one tyre I would never put on an A4, Continentals just don't work.
Merlot
....despite being OEM for the S4 for ages.
TDiAvant
i'm sure audi put what ever they have in stock at the time... My TDi came with contis, the S4 PS2, the RS4 PS2. Audi don't make tyres, and they don't have a part number listing so how are they "OEM".
Ian_C
[ QUOTE ] Audi don't make tyres. [/ QUOTE ] Indeed. Audi don't make windscreens either! I'm getting sick of explaining this to customers. Glass company makes glass. Ian
JamesB
PS2s were great on both my B6 S4 and my RS6. I haven't been in the top end tyre market for a while but Black Circles were always competitive a while back.
TDiAvant
Very true Ian, but windscreen's do have an Audi part number, and may affect your warranty if you don't fit a "genuine" (it's got an Audi part number/logo) screen, to a car under which is covered by Audi warranty

The windscreen isn't covered under the warranty. It is a disposable like tyres and wipers. Merely following your lead that the Tyres are made by Continental, the windscreens by Pilkington, the wipers by Bosch etc etc. Ian

Auto dimming lights have sensors in the windscreen IIRC. That is why auto dimming lights are not a thing you can retro fit.

spikeyboy
actually i think the light sensor is either on the top of the dash or in the rear view mirro. I just had my windscreen changed and no light sensor on it. I also have the F1's fitted - great tyre, i went from PS2's whch were also great but a bit lumpy when changing 4 tyres (circa £200 a corner)
P_G
Another for F1's, but I don't think they make them anymore, you would get the assymetrical pattern now. PS2's, Toyo T1-R's, Dunlop SP9000 are also ones commonly mentioned. Me personally, I'm using Falken FK 452 now but on a 245/35 R19 and they have been good thus far. I don't know of many people who liked SC2's and RS cars ivariably have Pirelli or Michelin on them when no expense is spared. I think the comment was made as you couldn't really call Conti's OEM as they are not made by Audi.
PetrolDave
[ QUOTE ] I think the comment was made as you couldn't really call Conti's OEM as they are not made by Audi. [/ QUOTE ] Using that logic almost no part of a car could be called OEM. Do Audi make the seats, the steering wheel, the airbag, the carpet, the door trim, the wiring harnesses, etc. etc. etc. No they don't. Like most manufacturers Audi are, in fact, simply a final assembly plant for sub-assemblies made by others. I reckon the test for OEM is "is it made specifically for XYZ". The vast majority of tyres fail that test - but there ARE some tyres specially made for specific cars out there and those should be called OEM. JimLoskot
The guys at the tyre fitting place I use, told me that (I think I remember correctly) dunlop 9090 were used exclusively by audi. still went for the new eagle f1 asym's
