I'd not had a ESP issue.....until my S3 was remapped! Apparently, it's best to drive with the ESP off if it's remapped cos the engine doesn't like the way the ESP cuts the power. After all, ESP will cut in if you really need as the system is never fully off.

That is total bobbins.

I had an 8L S3 remapped from 225bhp to 265bhp, and I never noticed any increased tendency for the ESP to intervene - just lots more performance (which I made great use of, my average mpg was down from 28 before the remap to 24 after the remap) and a lovely DV chatter when lifting off the throttle.

I did have soft Yokohama AVS Sport tyres, maybe that helped?

Shark, mate. Which bit is bobbins? The EPS kicks in more cos of a remap? or it doesn't damage the ESP? It's well documented on Audi sport net that with the extra power the remap gives it can cause the ESP problems. Don't shoot the messenger!

[/ QUOTE ]

Well it shouldn't kick in more, as you have Haldex, and it can't damage the ESP system confused.gif

well just tried it again now its raining..... gearbox in sport (though this shouldn't make a difference) big right boot to get out of the junction at work, ESP lights up everything slows down ... haldex wakes up big kick in the arse ... now need a neck massage and every one thinks the car is on kangaroo juice !! Also tried it at the lights in the intrests of science and similar but less agressive on-off-on tendancies.

Oh and for those that panic about having ESP off.... have you never driven a half powerful car without ESP ??? Life is far more fun and full filling you just ahve to remember and not drop the thing !

Had it looked at at the last service... "its normal" according to the stealers, to me as a software integration engineer it feels as if they have bolted Haldex onto the ESP for a FWD car and not allowed for the haldex reaction time before the ESP SW cuts in

Sparky, For the New S3 there is deffinately a difference as the Haldex Brain is programmed differently I think it works more on throttle position agression rather than being road speed related so basically it is predictive rther than reactive and hence it gets in before ESP cuts in. As for 8L models Im not sure what happens...

interesting. but haldex reacts within a fraction of a turn of the wheel (ms) and the behaviour you describe isn't normal. get the car checked by someone that knows what they are talking about- sounds like the dealer doesn't! 169144-ok.gif

The Haldex relies on data from the ESP brain - works the same for the 8L model 169144-ok.gif

Like a few people have said, get it checked out by someone who knows what they're on about!

I've only driven one 8L A3 and that was a 3.2 S-line. I was wanging it around a roundaboue on a test drive and the ESP cut it, I lost power, and I nearly ended up with a very broken A3 and a very pissed off salesman.

It's got nothing to do with the car - it's because you can't feckin drive tongue.gif

Haldex uses the same data source as the brain but is independant of ESP and is not triggered by it OR liked to it FIREdevil.gif for me this is poor integration and something that is letting down an otherwise stonking car.... butit goes away if I hit the esp OFF button and as this thing has less BHP/TON than the last motor doing that isnt a big issue and can be quite fun. Intresting to note that no one else with a 3.2 is finding this so will have to quiz the stealers again before it goes out of warranty in March.

Also have owned a "proper" Q and will be returning to one once my 2 and a half years with this is over IF I stay with Audi.....
