Mook
Having found the stock brakes on the S4 to be not really up to the job on the track, where do I get a B7 RS4 upgrade now that audi-accessories.co.uk is offline until the end of the year? P_G
VAG-parts sell all the necessary bit, but ain't that cheap. AMD / BBT and APS still sell the conversions too. The cheaper alternative which may improve the brake performance is having braided lines put on and heavier brake fluid?

And then maybe getting some harder compound pads as well - Pagid RS14's (or even harder) if they make them for the S4. The brakes are a bit of a weakpoint on the VX so I run Mintex 1144 pads for road use and swap over to RS14's for the track. Reckon I've at least doubled the amount of laps I can do before fade sets in and the feel is sooo much better. I just got decent quality DOT 5.1 brake fluid and didn't bother with any trick/expensive race orientated stuff that might need replacing every other month. Mook
It's the pads that fade - the fluid doesn't have enough time to get hot - the pedal doesn't go long at all, so adding braided lines and changing the fluid won't make any difference. From previous experience of using after-market pads on the OEM disks, you don't get much of an improvement. For me, the only option is bigger disks and calipers. The RS4 upgrade was a favourite of several people at the Audi Driver event at Combe - I chatted with Phil Millington from Milltek and he used to run the B7 RS4 upgrade on his S4 around Combe and recommended it. Not sure if £3.3K+ from AMD is much of a bargain!
chasdrury
Are you still trying to persuade people it's a S4, Mook? Everyone on Scumball knows it's a 1.9TDi!
Mook
Shhh! Before everyone finds out Duisberg's ad stuck on my window the first morning of Scumball...

PetrolDave
Don't you need at least 18" wheels with RS4 front brakes? The RS4 is only available with 18" or 19" wheels, and people who have tried to fit a 17" space saver on the front wheels have said it won't go over the brakes. P_G
Sorry Mook, I didn't realise AMD had put their price up! £3.3K is extortionate! APS would do it for approx £1800 IIRC. However you would need H&R spacers so your Avus wheels fit over the new calipers. Unless you are after a 19" aftermarket quality set of wheels (only kidding!) I have heard of people using the B7 RS4 disk and the RS6 caliper which is supposedly narrower in dimension / construction, but spacers are still needed. It does solve the front brake problem and I had it on my old S4, much better stopping power. Unfortunately on the B6 you can only do the front upgrade, on a B7 S4 you can do front and rear. Otherwise the cheapest alternative I researched was a Movit kit at £4K front and back and a v.good kit. Pricey though.

P_G
was thinking more along the lines of 19" Sportec Monos. As for spacers I used the RS4 calipers and needed 10mm (per spacer so 20mm in total peraxle) H&R hubcentric spacers which I got from the TT Shop for approx £170-180 for both axles including 20 new TUV approved H&R longer bolts. IIRC those using the RS6 calipers only needed 5mm hubcentrics. So you get better stopping and better handling with an increased track. Best ask Sam about the RS6 calipers IIRC this is what he got from APS?

Avus_Bub
Mook,if you go for spacers get MTM ones. The H&R's are a made about 5mm too small for the mounting face of the hub. The MTM's are full size I know they are both TUV approved but I think the MTM ones offer a little more peace of mind. HTH BUB
