Mook
The only thing that used to drive me nuts in my (remapped) 2.5TDI Allroad was running out of revs. It was quicker 80-130 than the B5 S4, but when it ran out of steam, it was like hitting a wall. Chav
p.s. alera - note the use of the word similar. and it's not a racetrack, so a 1/10th second isn't enough to overtake someone!
Rich_Bee
[ QUOTE ] I see that mistake all the time on the b-roads round here. And you always have to assume the car you're overtaking will be a pratt and speed up a bit - so you need to compensate for that too! [/ QUOTE ] Sorry but I'm missing something, unless you were doing exactly how you put it above - why would comparative perfomance be an issue? At whatever speed you were travelling at, the performance is how quick the RS4 could get past you surely. This is where I'm getting confused.. [ QUOTE ] Fair enough the RS4 sounds rather yummy, but why do some people think the performance difference at speed is sooo much greater than it actually is. doh!! p.s. I was quite impressed with the sooty actually, I know its performance is similar to S4, but seems S4 vs RS4 difference isn't that great? [/ QUOTE ] It does sound like you were speeding up when he tried to overtake, maybe it's the turn of phrase that's confusing
S3_Scot
Real world performance comparisons are allways hard & usually come down to driver skill, driver mentality (no i'm not going to overtake on a blind summit), if you are in gear or not, passengers etc. They only really occur over 1/2 mile unless you look for it. But an RS4 is a lot quicker on track. In real world mapped S3 ± S4/d ± RS4 ± RS6 but on a track or clear motorway you see the difference in setup, 4wd, handling etc.
highflyin
Anyway...back to the point about Audi's being driven mainly by twats... and 'garcon' who as we can see from his Suedo intellectual posts is already a well qualified 'twat'. Anyone who buys a 'brand' is essentially a 'twat' .Companies don't make money selling stuff at cost. The difference between what it costs to make things and the cost to sell things is the profit and this profit is dictated by the 'brand value'.The bigger the brand the more you can charge'twats' to drive around in your aspirational brand. I could go on but there's a science behind this stuff and it would get more boring than it already is. Anyway point is - we are all aspirational 'twats' for buying brands ! A3 drivers really are tossers though ! or 16 years old, or 16 year old A3 driving tossers !

Mollox
The thing is, and I've come to apprciate this - what is effectively "spirited" driving from the inside and the simple act of enjoying the performance of a half-quick car, can often look like "twattish" driving from the outside. Of course, you can't condone aggressive or dangerous driving, but to many people the mere act of accelerating is considered "dangerous". I've toed down a motorway slip road getting quickly up to the national speed limit and passing people on the way, or used the performance to overtake someone perfectly safely on an A road, and had shaken fists, fiddler signs, flashing lights etc. Silly sods

[/ QUOTE ] Since when did McCombie start posting here again? Anyway, moving on from the homo-erotic banter... As someone who is an Audi Customer and deals with them every day as Part of his job I think Audi customers are 9/10 extremely courteous and don't have a chip on their shoulders. Of course, you do get the odd person who will try and make life difficult. Usually ex-BMW drivers who will say 'Well my BMW didn't do this at 10000 miles' etc; the biggest shame is you can't really say 'Well, it's because it's not a BMW' as it will naturally be shown as you having attitude Then again, I guess I could just have decent Customers because I never piss them off. Go to another Audi Centre that has poor product knowledge and rude staff and they could say that every Customer is a twat. When it comes to driving on the road. I don't think Audi Drivers are any more agressive than a Ford Driver or a BMW driver. It's just that there have been so many more Audi's come onto our roads in the last 5 years that people are just noticing bad driving more
