RedRobin
Robin has driven an R32 as well, so he should know! ....Yes, I've driven several Mk5 R32's in different stages of tune. I absolutely love that V6 music but my personal preference is for the feel of driving the GTI which is just that wee bit 'looser' and more nimble and less 'grown up'! I love 'em both! But in different ways. < That doesn't seem to go down well when applied to females though . What was that song by Stephen Stills? - "Love The One You're With"? billy2shots
Have to agree. Having owned both mkV GTI and mkV R32 i can say the R32 is more sure footed more planted but too grown up. The GTI will get you there nearly as fast but you will have a smile on your face when you arrive.

RedRobin
....Good find, Geoff Looks a bit too Mk5-and-a-half but with a new Scirocco nose. I hope VW haven't dumped the bonnet gas-strut as they have on the Scirocco!! Snoopy
I know a few other makes that have to, they say its for pedestrian crash test safety, i know SEAT did with there latest and it just makes it feel cost cutting to me. Funny enough i have just come back over from reading your review lol.
RedRobin
....Yes I heard it was crash test safety too but didn't realise about pedestrian aspect. That Scirocco bonnet is surprisingly HEAVY!! Seems a bit OTT on the safety aspect - I don't quite see the benefit but I'm no expert in such matters. Snoopy
Head hitting something hard under the bonnet. Its why alot of car makers are making bonnets higher, especially sloping near the windscreen and engines lower as well as making front overhangs longer. Having an uprated location that will not give on the bonnet to mount the strut so it can hold onto the bonnet in winds and also because the strut is solid they say can be a problem. Must say your photos of the scirroco make me want to see the front of the gti mk6 as if its anyhting like it i know what our second car is going to be for sure. RedRobin
....I thought I read somewhere that the Mk6 front overhang was less than the Mk5. I remember because it's the overhang consideration I have to sometimes be careful of with my lower front.
Muppetboy
Why does it have to look like a Scirocco? If I want a Scirocco I'll buy a Scirocco! It annoys me how car manufacturers want all their cars to look the same from the front, just small, medium and large!
Snoopy
Robin, It maybe i don't know. Its just a trend in the motor industry in general. :smileylove: Could i love this face and bum is the question? :pengy: Edited August 23, 2008 by Snoopy

Snoopy
Brand identity. Its suppose to be so you can instantly identify a brand without even seeing the badge. Its marketing men at there worst. (can you tell im an engineer, so butt heads with marketing men on a daily basis!) lol. VW have a problem as they keep changing the look as it does not work (often gets confused with other brands look, like audi for exampe) The other problem they have is history, The marketing peep look back at the corrado and think its sales problem is what happens when you don't carry an identity through the model ranges (not true it was other reasons but VW marketing give off that was the reason!). Plus styling inhouse is what often causes these problems. Design by comities and you get this. The original golf and scirocco did well partly because they were styled by a design house not inhouse imo. RedRobin
....My business was corporate and brand identity. The worst people to make such decisions are those inhouse (as you suggest Snoopy). This is because they are unable to step outside and look at themselves objectively and truthfully and also because their individual company politics and hierarchies will be involved. It's so obvious isn't it!? An outsider can be brave and make bold and creative suggestions and proposals without fear of losing their jobs or towing the company line as it's percieved to be. Tarmac_Terrorist
Some of the lines on the MKVI Golf look quite similar to some Renaults to me. Bit worrying....
stooH
I also see hints of hyundai in the lines as well It's that crease I think, don't like it personally but it will probably grow on me.

Snoopy
I hate websites that block direct links. Illustrated: 2010 VW GTI Try that one and look for the blue photo. If they block that one too goto Leftlane - news, reviews, and info for the auto-industry Scroll down to VW golf GTI news and click it to find the photo. Damb Americans.
