Hot Hatches

Wopps,

Isn't there a risk that if you go with the Ford (or any high power FWD car) that it will frustrate you? You've come from the CSL to the Porker and I think having the front wheels scrabble for traction and the torque streer will be far removed from what you're used to.

4WD would solve that but may not give the fun that you (maybe) are looking for.

What not a 3 series? There's loads to choose from at any budget you car to spend.

330i, older M3's etc etc

Given you're not going to be taking it on track, you may as well have something quick with a bit of comfort. This is all based on my personal experience of them, not on journo stuff.

Mk6 GTI - won't set your trousers on fire. Very solid and a nice drive, but that just about sums it up - it's "nice". Not "great" or "thrilling". Too heavy as well.

R26R - too hard-core for daily use - it'll drive you nuts. Because it's stripped, it's noisy. Very capable on twisty roads though.

Scirocco R - see Golf 6 above. Looks great, but it's just too clinical.

Feckus RS - brilliant, brilliant car. Completely different to your RS, which wouldn't be a bad thing. If you can live with the looks - like you say - shame it's not available in black.

135i - that'd be my pick of them all (although it's not in your list :)). Brilliant and capable car. Mapped with a decent exhuast will see nigh on 400bhp. Swap the suspension out (£1500) and you've a real stealth machine that goes like stink, has some comfort and some space as well.

So that's it then. 135i it is :D

Did a little more work today on the tax if its a company car. Below is a table. What do you think, better off private? Could get a good clio for about 12-14k and the Feckus for 22-24 I think, others do not know yet.

Anual milage i think will be around 6k. What do you experts think? Im looking for best car/best deal and £ for fun.

#that does look nice too.

whats the; mpg, depreciation, service costs etc like compared to the above.

Looking for a good deal here :)

urban mpg with a heavy right foot will be 20-25. I average about 28 in mine, but that's including quite a bit of rural/motorway.

It'll depreciate like a stone, but so does anything else in the category.

Servicing probably similar to the others.

Of the three you've narrowed it down to, I think I'd go private and get the Feckus RS. Blue is the subtlest, but I love them in white.

Even though I didn't, out of the three you've shortlisted I'd go with the Focus. The Clio will probably be great initially, then it will break. The Golf is just far too bland and ordinary IMO, does nothing for me but would probably we a great place to be everyday. My Focus RS mini review is on here somewhere, it didn't pull my strings (due to me being stuck in a mid 80s Ford timewarp) which is why I stuck with n/a and Honda and went with the FD2 but the RS is a very capable car.

You'd have probably the only one in the country (maybe second one) and I'd hate you forever :roflmao:but here's a leftfield choice seeing as people are chucking in Mazdas and Subarus..

Friend has a Cup 200, black with the optional Recaros. He likes but it didn't inspire any of my petrolhead friends. I haven't been in it so can't really comment. I take it you've seen the video of the Clio Cup chasing the Focus RS?

If the 135i coupe is out of the question....

It has to be the RS, it's just one of those in your face i'm a proper hot hatch and i'm not all talk type of cars. I know its still a ford but it has presence on the road. They are still rare too.

GTI is so bland in comparison, especially in London. Clio makes a good hot hatch for many people but when you utter RS in the same sentence you can safely get rid of the distraction.
