You can't trust Virgin Media

I lost my broadband about 1 hour ago.

I always do all the checks before calling them as it's less painful.

I could still get to my WAP and that would successfully get a new DHCP address on the WAN side so possibly my WAP stopping traffic. I did all the reboots (WAP and Cable modem) then I eliminated the WAP by plugging my personal laptop directly to the cable modem. I got no IP back. So swapped the cable just in case.... and I did get an IP. Tried my work laptop and didn't get an IP. FFS inconsistent results. I even tried hard coding the WAN side IP address in case they have DCHP issues.

Having eliminated everything I could do I prepared myself for a long wait and called Virgin.

The call was answered in 10 secs by a real person !!! I said you couldn't trust them!

He said reboot the modem again and he would send it some signals.

I did and it worked. (Fixed first time?!?! WTF!!)

He then said "If you have a WAP, please reconnect it and ensure it all works. I'll wait on the phone"

I put it all back and all is working again.

WTF!! - there's something up with the Matrix when a Virgin Media fault is resolved like that ! +++

Meanwhile....

We've had no landline for 4 days.

Cable internet is fine, but the phone is fecked. This is the third time it's happened in just over a week.

An engineer was booked for 4pm to 7pm on Friday, but they've seen fit to change that to 12pm to 4pm on Friday. Utterly useless because I've told them to change it back to the time they agreed to in the first place and asked how much they're going to credit my account with for the lack of a landline.

you only need sky attatched for interactive, all your channels will work without a telephone line connected and if you have multi room sky wont bother if disconnected for at least 2 months ,mine has been disconnected for about 5 months now and have'nt heard a peep from them , unusual as i have 4 boxes and havent got round to rewiring the house yet
