fatcat
Just started a new contract some 8 miles from my house, a combined round trip of 22 miles a day (the way home is longer I take a different route). The ol gal returned a combined total of 54mpg and that included a last 2 mile dash of a speed somewhat above the average for 5pm. At this rate a tankfull will last me some 2-3 weeks excluding the Essex & Windsor treks. Am a happy bunny, I like all this local work

paul130TDI
The 130 TDI's really are fantastic for MPG, on a 15 mile trip at steady speed limits on carrageways, I can manage 60 MPG and on a decent run from Belfast to Dublin (100 miles) i would average 64 MPG, sitting around 80 MPH on the motorways. danksy
I was expecting about 40mpg due to the following vs the PD150 golf. Larger car Roof Rails reduce aerodynamics Additional weight of car & Quattro. I have done 2000 miles and averaged 32.4mpg so far (manually calculated)
Snail
Mate, just wait till she loosens up. She should be properly run in by about 100k miles.

I'd guess the engine's still a bit tight - mine had 5000 demonstrator miles on it when I bought it, so it had probably been well loosened
Jon
My long term average over 3300 miles is currently 25MPG, think a lot may be down to the fact it's Tip and my heavy right foot and mostly town driving. Jon.

Old A3 prices are slipping, yeah, the PD 130s look good value now, 2 year olds for 13-14k! Probably pay for itself in a few days... Ian C
Ben
The performance is there all right Thinking of an early Tdi110 Sport, old A3's are getting pretty good value now. Not sure how to pay for the fecker though Have to get a job at Maccy D's during the evenings

Seriously, yeah, the old TDi 110s are nice if a little out of date engine wise. Diesel technology progresses so fast! The A3 and Golf 130s are still making 13k for the early ones! VAG residuals are almost too good.... Ian C
Ben
My brother has a non-PD Golf, I think it's either a 90 or 100 BHP model on a 51 plate. He gives it 100% all day and still gets 45MPG. Git
