Speeding query

I have had a few escapes worthy of mention too.

After being stopped at 95 (on a bike) I was subjected to, "sorry Barry I didn't realise you lived round here...... oh sorry, I thought I saw a number 7 on the side!" (one for a different age group)

After being stopped at 90+ on M6 whilst returning to my ship (Ex RN) with a good explanation I had an escort well out of area by an SD1 Jam sandwich.

After being pulled at 70ish (unknown as he only caught me later) once again with a good story I was told to use my mirrors more.

YES, I have been VERY lucky.

Guys, you never know who reads these sorts of posts.

My fastest, admitted top speed in the last 4 years was an indicated 310km/h in the drizzly wet in a Jaguar XKR-S...

...on the main straight @ Phillip Island on the inaugural Jaguar R Performance Academy here in 2011.

Only been pulled once for speeding. Speed was nothing exotic. After my justification they said "well what are you waiting for? Get a move on".

Cause? I was on call and driving in to review scan of copper being stabbed at the nearby hospital.

It's weird, because my dad was a speed demon and had a list of traffic offences as long as I am tall, but the one episode that has stuck with me all these years from childhood was him being pulled over on the Pacific Highway (pre-freeway) at Mt White between Newcastle and Sydney. He was religiously doing the speed limit as he had all of us in the car, and he got pulled by the plod for obstructing traffic!

You just can't win.

Quite right, good advice there, the only reason I mention the above is that rather than each being an admission of guilt (which is not admissible on its own in a court of law) each was dealt with by the relevant people at the time & dscretion was exercised.

Conversely, if I were to attach corroborating evidence then that would be a different matter entirely.

I used to know someone a few years ago called Neil McRae and had a private plate that kinda spelled out his surname.

He got pulled in his M3 driving spiritedly on a back road and the smart-arse copper said "who do you think you are, Colin McRae?"

"No, but he is my cousin" was the response and then showed him a picture of the two of them at a family do. He got let off.

We had a biker crash into us doing in excess of 100mph in a 60. It was actually calculated in excess of 120mph - but the CPS went safe at 100.

Seeing what actually happens at those speeds when it all goes wrong is quite sobering. Changed how I drive since 2001, when it happened.

He (and his mate who was racing him and also crashed) didn't die. He got 12 month suspended / 3 year ban and a nominal fine iirc.

Coincidentally, it was the May Day Bank Holiday Monday 2001.

One of the worst experiences of my life.

He hit our car, then slid for 160m (without leathers)......I think his mate then ran over him..... And then his bike exploded.

Lovely day out!

Information just released shows the ridiculous 2 mile long 50mph section of the A1 up here (which causes more problems than it solves) generated just under a £1m of fines in 2 months last September/October when they had a purge (as some will know I was very nearly one of the statistics).  All in the name of road safety. Wnakers.

I missed the fact he *didn't* die. How on earth did he survive that!?!

He did survive, but he appeared in court in a wheelchair over a year later.

Unfortunately he didn't have a licence, as it had been revoked by DVLA - as he suffered from fits after his last crash.

The insurance turned into a nightmare and cost us a fair whack in the end. Car was impounded for months, as it looked as if he was going to die. We had to buy another car with zero no claims as we couldn't get a courtesy car -as the ins. Co didn't have our car. Really fair!

The 2nd biker also had his girlfriend on the back..... None of them in leathers.

The most ridiculously blatant use of speeding fines for revenue generation above safety in the UK.

I came through there last night at 11pm.

A few cars around, but nothing much at all.  Everyone doing 50-55mph when 70 mph would cause no problems whatsoever.  Not at 11pm, not at 11am.  It is absolute madness.
