Thanks chaps. It's my brothers car and he's looking to change to a 997.2 C4S or a R8 now.

B you're right, it's really a new generation M car in a 1 series body!

I've spent a fair bit of time in it and it is effortless in putting down its power and doesn't half hang around in sport+ mode

Please do Jim, would appreciate reading an objective view on it, warts and all including a realistic fuel consumption figure.

If there's anything else you'd like to know, drop me a msg mate and I'll get it over to my bro. I'll find out what the computer says for mpg on his

My average over 26000 miles is 29.8mpg.

A good thrashing on public roads sees low to mid 20's. A long run at normal traffic speeds sees high 30's.

For a snapshot of real world. Recent trip from York to Stirling with the cruise set at UK motorway speeds on the dual carriageways, Lots of overtakes on the single carriageway roads. An hour spent in stop start delays on the Edinburgh ring road. This gave 35.4 mpg.

Pretty happy with this.

Best has been 40.2 mpg on a traffic restricted commute.

One of these is on my shortlist for next car so thanks for posting that Jim. :)

I get a constant real world 31mpg from the Civic which is a mix of slow commutes and A/B road blasts.

Went out in a friends earlier this year and was very impressed with it, especially the gearbox.

Okay, so it’s me that bought this little monster.

A little background.

I work for a company that allows private cars on the company car scheme for an allowance because of my job role and grade. However, one of the conditions of being on the scheme is that your car cannot be more than 7 years old. The R32 was 7 in December so it was time to change.

Over the last couple of years, they’ve been clamping down on high performance private cars being put on the company car scheme. Any new car coming on to the scheme is now limited to a max of 175g/km CO2 emissions

.

As I do like my fairly nippy hatchbacks. I started searching for a replacement a while back but could not find anything high performance wise that was under the cut off mark. There was no way I was going in to a diesel

After searching high and low, the only car that came in at the mark was any auto boxed M135i. As Pincher put it, ‘I only had a choice of one’

I’d been looking for a while for a blue one with the right spec.  all over the country and the ones I found with dealers were too expensive for me. I had an amount of cash I was not going to go over and the dealers were not playing ball with my offer. The best I could get was a free tank of fuel (like that’s going to do me any good with a fuel card)

I then saw Gus’s (Max_B’s brother)  advert on Auto trader and gave him a ring to see if he would come down to the price I had in mind, since it had a great spec albeit not the exact colour I wanted. Fortunately he didn’t pick up after ringing him about three times (I don’t like leaving Vmail messages). It was after calling him, I remembered the ad on the site here and had a look. I now realised from the pics here that it was the same advert on Autotrader.

Cue a PM to Max_B to get in touch with me and if the price I’m offering to pay was accepted, I’d pay for it and pick it up immediately. He didn’t get back to me for a couple of days that man!

After PM messages flying between inboxes, Max got me a discount off his brother of £600 I think and after speaking to him myself, I was able to get another £50 off .

The deal was on. I transferred a deposit to Gus’s account and agreed to pick the car up the following week as he needed to sort a car out for himself before he finally closed the deal.

Two days before pick up, I got a text from Gus asking if we’re still on for pickup at the same moment  I was speaking to a dealership that had just  got a blue one (similar spec) in that had not even been advertised yet. I had told the dealership how much I was willing to pay. They came just about £300 over what I was paying for Gus’s to which I said no but was tempted. The only thing was, it was the red interior and I wasn’t too keen on the ‘superman’ look.

When I got off the phone, I sent a text to Gus saying I might pull out of the deal and told him why. By the time Gus got back to me in a frantic phone call, the dealer had already come back with a final offer of £100 over what Gus was selling. The dealer had even told me to lie to Gus to say my loan (I didn’t have) fell through just to buy theirs after I’d told him I’d paid a deposit on one (I couldn’t do that!!).

As tempting as it was and considering what Max had done to get me the price I was paying through the TSN connection, after speaking with Gus and being honest with him ad him also telling me he’d paid a deposit on a replacement with the knowledge I was picking up from him in two days, I decided to forget about the dealer and go with Gus.

So I became the owner of this beast of a car.

Review will follow soon, as I actually have not driven it that much apart from the drive back down from Gus up north. I think just about 30 miles in total since its been brought home.

A few things I can say for now though… It’s a nice lovely car but the power petrifies me! I don’t think before I sell the car it will ever be driven in Sport+ mode, ever!

Now to sell that R32 and email a bottle of grey goose to Max. :P

Hi Paul,

Should've mentioned this isn't just now. A few weeks now, all in!

I can understand what you mean about the looks but my choices were quite shall I say....limited.

The M235i which would've been another choice, is over the company threshold +++

Enjoy the car Tony. I have just part exchanged mine after 27 months and 30000 miles. Best car I have ever owned and so talented in so many areas.

I only chopped it as I wanted a convertible for the summer. The Z4 35is I have replaced it with is no where near as competent. But it does have a sence of occasion the one series lacks.

I will be looking at going back to one (an LCI this time) next year maybe.
