Audi RS3 Press Release

The suspension on the xdrive BMWs comes in for some criticism. As standard even the M Sports come with a softer higher riding set up. This needs to be fixed by specifying the adaptive set up. Even then it comes with thinner anti role bars than the sdrives. People have been disappointed with the handling as a result.

Interesting. There's bound to be some pay off in handling with xdrive vs sdrive but it's useful to know some of the facts behind it.

I really don't know what I want next any more. Happy with the overall BMW experience but not completely against changing marques. My trouble is I could honestly see me in anything from a M135i to a 730d...  :uhoh:

Isn't always subjective though?  Take MrMe's and Patently's views of the ride in the Z4 - poles apart.

I like a firm ride.  In a car.  Oh bollox, that still sounds wrong :roflmao:

Handling and ride are not the same thing though Mook as you know better than most. Some cars manage to get both wrong. The E89 Z4 is a great example of this. It always felt to me like the early versions had front and rear ends designed by entirely different teams. Therefore both the ride comfort and handling were less than optimised.

But by specifying the xd instead of the s-drive version, you're essentially saying "I'm a wuss, and a bit nervous of this car". So BMW are responding to this by giving you gentler suspension :coffee:

Patently and myself being poles apart in respect of suspension preference has a number of answers.

He drives a racing car.  I drive a repmobile.

His Z4 is an E85.  Mine was an E89.

He is a masochistic thrill-seeking rollercoaster riding wooden wheel loving man from a county in which the roads are lined with bubble wrap.

I am not. :roflmao:

I have to say I was enjoying the off topic, it was more interesting.

Indeed, I was going to say that Garcons sweet spot is the new BMW 2 Series Grand Tourer, should tick all the boxes for him that!!... NOT.

Wait and get the new 530d xdrive when its launched that will be a very nice bit of kit indeed. +++

I'm still hankering over the B8 RS4

Order book now closed I believe.  Still showing on config' for the moment.

180 unregistered unsold unallocated RS4s sitting at UK dealerships last count!  Audi have really pushed them onto dealers it seems

UK configurator now up.  Expect there will be a finance contribution very soon in the same style as the B8 RS4 and C7 RS6.

The 0-100 kph of 4.3 looks like it might even be on the conservative side - despite needing to change into third.  Slightly odd gearing - second is very short, but third and fourth are very long despite the seven speed box (S3 has just the six)

It does sound lovely but a lot of the reviews keep bringing up the Golf R how its a more fun package but for £10k less.

I am sure its going to be better than the previous RS3 but to still hear reviews which don't seem to be as good as the Golf R is disheartening.

Surely if Volkswagen can get the Golf R right, quattro GmbH could do better?

No doubt they will sell loads.

:)
