I have to say though, the stero-typical viewpointing of Audi drivers towards BMW's on here is so blatant it is untrue. At least your M3 driver such as I can acknowledge the Audi's quality for what it is meant for - what do you do, bash, bash, bash!

It is becoming tiring and repetitive! wink.gif

If this was aimed at any of my posts then I'll respond and explain them. If not, I won't bother. wink.gif

Morning all.

AS Well done reaching the 1k.

M3Me- Chill pill taken an hour ago and its working! Deep breathing exercises and yoga......

Sorry if last night rambling put you on your back foot, in essence, all I'm trying to say is that the M3 v (all others- S4, CAMG etc)debate is nonsense.

If someone prefers to drive a car other than an M3 who are any of us to offer critic and slate the alternatives?

You own a M3 and have a deposit down on the new shape, so you must dearly like them (noted weeks ago, when you got upset with the suggestion that they are a very common car- in London area).

They are great cars, only ruined by the volume seen in London and the fact that some M3 drivers are selfish, dangerous and ignorant to road conditions and other road users (reading papers, PDA in hand, full time mobile use- none of these trates make for a quality, focused drive).

Similar standards of poor driving abound in all car owner types including R32 drivers.

Owning a prestiage car does not qualify the driver as a driving expert, road time, training, practice and maturity do that. Would you not agree that someone jumping from say a 318 to an M3 would require a learning curve to explore the max potential of your car?

You are bias, as I am towards the R32, but sometimes your sensitivity to critic or comparision with your car is OTT.

Its a great car, but is it best in class, best value for wedge or best for every person with M3 budget? Well maybe yes, maybe no.

I think the difference between the S4 and M3 Cab is small, brand image is very close, performance is very close and lets be fair if the Top Gear guys ended the S4 v M3 shoot out on a very neutral basis and they drive 100's of cars, who are you or I to attempt to change someones opinion?

Objectively (that word again), lets just say that both cars are great, in the right hands.

For rarity value, the S4 wins, but then I doubt that AS would by a car based on rarity.

As a finishing point, let also agree that a huge number of the general population would dearly love to have AS's so called problem. After all, away from the Co car or sponsored allowance car users, how many could afford £35k plus on a car?

Very few, so how lucky are we!

That comes to around $80-90K Aust. depending on exchange rates. The average "man in the street" here is hard pushed to afford a $35K vehicle - most more expensive vehicles, say $45-140K are financed via lease or CHP through work and/or for tax-minimisation...

It is one reason the domestic Ford and Holden V6/V8 beasties are so popular - you get a LOT of bang for $30K in a big car.

Ok, I went through the same dilema last month - M3 Cab, S4 Cab or Boxster S.

I ruled the Boxster out purely on practicality reasons.

Whilst the M3 is probably a better driving experience than the S4 I felt that the S4 was a better day to day car. I can use it every day and in all conditions without having to worry. It's also more discrete than the M3 and has a far superior exhaust note. Sorry but I hate the way M3 sounds.

Oh and around here (Docklands) the M3 is all too common I'm afraid.

However if I'd wanted a real brute of a car I would have got a CSL.

Once again this is just my opinion and I based my choice on my needs.

Is this the 26th Feb date? Don't see any TSN-ers that I know on it. That date would be a problem for me if thats the one because as things stand Man Utd are playing Portsmouth in a televised game at 5.15pm and I am meant to be going to it (at Old Trafford) - it isn't a huge distance away from Oulton Park mind you..but I have to be there for 1pm - what are the track day schedules like?

having just read the rest of this thread, i'd like to add that m3me you need to stop thinking all audi drivers dislike bmw's so much. seems to me you are the biased one....

i said this:

hmm. i disagree. the S4 sounds better with its gorgeous V8, it caters for 4 people in style and is 100% practical as a daily car, 24 hours of the day and 365 days of the year

[/ QUOTE ]

which i think are fair comments of comparison when giving our opinions to AS, and you replied with:

But its pants.

Get an M3 if you want a powerful saloon/coupe, not a girlie S4.

[/ QUOTE ]

hardly an unbiased, informative response. try and keep the old m3me in check eh! 169144-ok.gif

I guess I am qualified to add some thoughts to this discussion given that a) I have owned an M3 Coupe for the last 18 months, b) drove both an S4 and M3 before purchasing the M3 and c) have been having thoughts about what to buy next !

In TW my M3 is relatively rare, as there are probably only 3 or 4 others that I've seen (although I think I've only seen 1 S4)

It is definitely fair to say that the M3 is harder to drive well - with my previous S3 (and from my limited experience, the S4 as well), you can floor the throttle before the apex of the roundabout and leave Quattro to sort things out, with just a slight drift in the tail - even with traction control on, the rear of the M3 will step out a lot more. With TC off, you need to be a very good driver to control the resulting slide and not end up facing the wrong way (from past experience !). To be honest though, that sort of driving isn't advisable on public roads and is clearly more suited to track driving and wide open roads. For the experienced driver though, it probably provides thrills beyond those available in the S4.

For the rest of us, I'd say the S4 is more usable every day (my M3 was an absoulte pig in the snow last year, and I dreaded driving anywhere fearing my £45k price and joy was just one push of the throttle for certain death ). I'm sure in the S4 that things were much more comfortable.

As much as I've enjoyed the M3, I think my next car might well be quattro.............

Just my thoughts,

Sidicks

Been tempted by a second hand (T plate) Subaru Legacy Estate 4WD (2.5). Met Blue, 83,000m, 2 owners (current owner has had it 4 years), FSH, excellent condition. Over budget mind you but the wife has seen it and likes it so that makes it okay...

Wants £4k for it. Got him to provisionally agree on £3750 and it drives incredibly well and has every conceiveable extra fitted to it. I was very impressed indeed and it was no slouch to drive.

I know the guy and he is having a full years test put on it this Thursday, after which I have arranged to revisit on Saturday (I've told him I'll have it but wouldn't pay/take it until the full test was done). It hasn't been advertised and only found out about it because I called at his house to drop a birthday card off for his wife.

Dealer history is Main Subaru and every invoice since purchase is available. He's bought a Renault Grand Espace thing because they have another child on the way and he has intended keep the Subaru but has now figured it is excess to requirements - so its hopefully going to become my winter baby.

Really nice touch too - he has a set of winter wheels and tyres that he'll be throwing in too.

It's too cheap actually - and he'd get more for it if he advertised it, but hey, some things are best kept between friends...

I feel awful actually...because I have a way in to a Subaru dealership contact....and he has told me he'd bottom book it at £4750 and expect to retail at £6500 because it is the Lux pack model too....

Hmmm. I feel awful. Should I tell him.....he hasn't a clue about cars.....

Dilemma!
