Thorburn
Not sure this is really a Meet & Trackday post. Its all a bit subjective too, if you have a wife and two kids then the S3 is probably the way to go, if you want a coupe or a convertible then the TT is probably the better bet
NewNiceMrMe
Which TT, what spec S3, fit for what purpose? It depends what you want from a car. We need a bit more than just 3 words to help you!
bigchris
OK I am buying an S3, should be collecting it in a couple of days. But having looked at the prices of the TT I think this could be the better buy as the the TT retains its value better. I could be wrong
simonb
TT if you want to think that you look cool. I'd say S3 though for proper drivers car. Nice motor - very nice indeed. Everyone's got a TT - no offence to anyone on here - but they've reached that price range whereby the boy-racers are managing to get hold of them and 'pimp their ride'! I'd avoid if i were you. S3 - good call.
bigchris
is 9.5 grand a fair price for a v/99 plate s3 with 75k on the clock
AudiPartner
Sounds like a very good price provided its genuine mileage.
NewNiceMrMe
The S3 is a much more adaptable car too - you need to speak to Molly. Molly!!!!!!!!!

[/ QUOTE ] When ever you see posts like this you know that the advice is biased and fundementaly flawed. The TT and S3 and near identical, it's just ones in a party frock with a superb interior and compromised practicality and the other has hatchback looks and hatchback praticality. The handling difference, if any is minimal. Ask the guys in the S3s that I've done track days with (in my old TT). There's nothing in it. People who say the S3 is more of a drivers car are deluding themselves as it would ruin there mind set that the TT is all about looks and form over function. Buy the one that suits your own individual requirements. S3's are the old shape and already out of production. The TT is still a current shape for about 12 months. All about looks versus practicality.
0to60
S3 anyday, more stealth IMO.
shao_khan
I'd have to agree with Scotty and Gren here - not much in it. I would say I like the S3 seats better, found them far more supportive, but overall like the TT trim better.
Wallachie
TT's are everywhere, and are a bit feminine in my opinion - Two friends of mine have TT's and they are both females! However, I think they are great - and once you get inside they do feel a bit special over the S3. It's just a shame so many people have them now. If you don't mind people branding you a hairdresser or a bit of a girl - I'd say go for the TT - the 3.2 DSG if you can afford it. If you don't want people thinking you are just a poser, go for the S3 as a safer, if more sedate option!
Scotty
[ QUOTE ] I would say I like the S3 seats better [/ QUOTE ] Agreed. I think the TT seats are the biggest failing of the interior.
Dave
I've got a V6 TT at the moment, as a stopgap between RS's.. and i must say that i like it. It sounds throaty, goes well, the DSG is just superb and it looks good where ever you go.. shops/hotel/school.. It does lack that cutting edge, but then so does the S3's i've driven. But they are fast(ish), comfortable, well built and desirable. Which ever you go for you won't be dissapointed

Mook
TT if you don't want to carry any passengers. S3 if you do. TT = 2 choices of bhp (180 and 225) for the model year you're going for. S3 is 210 and a little bit heavier, so not quite as quick, but who's counting Get yourself down (or up!) to www.amdtechnik.com in Bicester for a Stage 1 remap as a minimum and you'll be a very happy Audi driver. Both are great cars, as long as they've got a full service history.
Colmartin
I'd keep clear of the TT, it's for hair dressers and from what i've seen doesn't handle as well as an A3 S-Line! i'd go for the S3 all the way!

Gren
Same weight from memory - 1395kg or something like that. Whatever they are you'd not split them on performance. I guess it comes down to whether you're insecure and don't want to be branded a hairdresser.
Wallachie
The difference in weight between the S3 and TT is negligible, according to Evo's stats the TT is 1395kg and the S3 is 1375kg. I don't think that would translate into much of a perfomance advantage on the road.
garcon magnifique
And would possibly be negated altogether by differences in aerodynamics... Purely personal choice, but of the two I'd go for the S3. Simply because I prefer an understated hatch/saloon to a flashy coupe/cabrio. No doubting the TT is a bit of a design classic though - even if they're a tad common now.
Mook
Just done a Google - apologies for the dodgy post - TT is 3410 lbs and the S3 is 3130 lbs (OK, so it was a US site). TT hits 60 (not 62!) in 6.2, S3 hits it in 6.8. Must be something to do with the drag (queen) coefficient...
