Window tints on Avants

I'm thinking about getting my windows 'pimped' on my Avant as I can get them done relatively cheaply.

I had my last car done(35% rear and 50% front) and was very pleased with it.

I'm aware of the legal limits etc but havent seen many A4s or even Avants with tints and was wondering what is the general opinion of them on here? Are they considered too chav or gangsta, or can they look cool.gif

My car is Silver BTW so Im not sure what level to go for yet, if at all? Anyone got any pics?

Cheers

I would, and probably will, just go with a light tint all over, maybe a bit darker on the back window only.

It is amazing how much heat it keeps out on sunny days, it is worth it for that alone.

There is a guy based in Leicester that will do it for around £175, if you need his email address let me know and I will pass his details on.

Agree they do look good on black, but Im still not sure how they will look on a proper colour like Silver tongue.giftongue.gif

I would prefer to have a light tint on the front, and the rears not too dark so there is less contrast between them. This is what I did on my RX8 and never had any trouble with it....

I had a silver Merc V class decked out with dark tinted windows at my old company, (something we leased as part of a marketing project). Have to say the combination of silver with dark tints made it look quite stunning and also provided a nice contrast.

I did see a silver cab with tints last weekend and thought it looked quite good even if the window area for tinting was quite minimal.

I would however get a partial tint on the front windows too, whatever the regs allow, otherwise if you have dark tints just on the back, on a black car it can look a 'bit' strange.

I'm starting to wish I'd added a centre arm rest to my car.

My old Stilo had one, but I only ever used it on longer journeys where I didn't change gears. It got in the way, leaving it down all the time. But we went to Leeds today and the 1.5 hr cruise on the motorway made we wish for the arm rest and cruise control. smashfreakB.gif

I quite like the extra S Line badges - were they an Ebay purchase?

That reminds me, I think our glovebox is haunted. It's started opening by itself! EEK2.GIF

I've seen locally a silver cab with red roof and silver tints, although quite light and for all windows, looked good.

sekret.gifHave also seen a silver avant with black tints on the rear and side but no driver passenger and IMO it looks naff. Better to have same % tint all round.

If it's heat your worried about in the summer, get a solar roof on your next model, can't recommend it highly enough.

Problem with window tints nowadays is the legal maximum allowable on the fronts is barely any more tinted than standard factory tint, so from an appearence point of view theres not much to be gained at all.

You can of course tint the backs as much as you wish, but with light fronts it just looks unfinished in my opinion.

Did once see a black cabrio with black roof and heavy black tints on all side and rear. Totally illegal, but looked so so cool... cool.gif

You got to be so careful with this kind of thing though. Misspace your number plate illegally and you might get a fine. Over tint your front windows and then be unfortunate enough to be involved in an acident and you might find people trying to blame your tints (depending on the type of accident) and then you're in all sorts of dung.gif plus it might start getting very difficult from an insurance point of view... Never ever worth the risk.

I thought i had the lightest tint applied that i could find at the time only to be stopped x number of years later( recently) and get a £30 fixed penalty fine for have the fronts too dark. You can clearly see inside the car with the tints applied but according to the police and his equipment they were nearly 70% ! therefore making the the manufacturers satndard tint nearly as dark as you can go.

Factory Tints are 30% and max front legal tints 35%....so, what is the point.... confused.gif

Er, don't wish to argue for the sake of it, but I do not want anyone to tint their car to 35% as this is illegal. znaika.gif

The law now states that you need at least 70% visibility through your windows forward of the b-post and 75% visibility for a windscreen. VAG factory glass is just over 20% tint.

Agree with your last point though UBM - what is the point! You have less than 10% to play with on the front drop-glasses.
