The lines will show that you wasn't speeding, as they will count how many you passed between the shots.

This is exactly true ... they use the lines to calculate the number passed by a car (distance travelled from one flash to another). From what I've been told, they calculate the speed on the letter which they send to the speeding person.

I think the road markings are more as a confirmation of the speed of vehicle than the actual original measure. The camera itself will detect the actual speed of the vehicle. The lines mean you can't get away with saying that the camera must have mis-read your speed as the cops can easily demonstrate the distance you travelled between the two flashes.

Absolutely right. 169144-ok.gif

White marks are just a confirmation.

Gatsos use radar to measure your speed. Truvelo uses 4 black sensors across the lane before the camera to measure your speed & prime the electrics to take the photo when you drive past the 3 white lines.

AFAIK they still use the 10% + 2mph rule for setting cameras up.

Mobile units are set lower when conditions are bad. A woman I know was busted at 34 mph in a 30 near a school when it was pouring with rain. She contested it & got 6 points + £100 fine for her trouble. The beak must have got out of the wrong side of bed that day! I can see the reasoning though. coffee.gif

I know the West Yorkshire cameras are set to 10% +2mph as said above. Although according to their website, the tolerance doesn't apply during rush hour - pressumably for the mobile units.

If it's the same in all areas, it would explain why the woman speeding past a school was done for 34mph in the rain, and rightly so in my opinion. 169144-ok.gif
