RNS-E & TMC - Free DVD Upgrade

Recommended Posts

This very interesting reading, it all seems to be dependant on the dealers attitude and knowledge. As I said, I don't see nay reason why I can't fit a nav system and then run it down to the dealers for a free TMC upgrade as Both Chaz and Vtec are retrofits of mine.

I don't see why not either. The only thing is that, according to Tom Peterkin, the TMC disk is only available to cars Pre 2006...

My sister is getting and 07 A3 on Saturday, which will soon enough have RNSe in it. I wonder if they will do that or not....

Actually Dave, the dealer's ignorance could work in your favour.

When you get the letter from Audi about the upgrade, book yourself in and put your old 2006_1 disc back in (i.e. TMC will stop working).

Let the dealer insert your new, free 2007 disc and hey presto, TMC will start working! The dealer will be too stupid to realise that it never went through a software update first. Then hand your 2006_1 disc to them and drive away.

Hey presto, you now have a spare 2007 disc set which you can flog on ebay smile.gif

I like your thinking!!! 169144-ok.gif

I could even put a very old 2004 DVD (so old it's not got a suffix letter) that I've got back in (which won't work at all) and make them feel good when it "miraculously" starts working when they put the 2007 DVD in jump.gif

Just spoke to Swansea Audi who acknowledged that a replacement programme was in place but expected the letter from Audi UK to indicate a customer contribution depending on the age of the vehicle, probably something like a £100.

At least they didn't start by saying that the Allroad wasn't covered!! Another call-back tomorrow to discuss further........

Whilst the leaked memo did clearly state that the upgrade would be free to customers and that labour charges should be borne by the dealer, I must confess I was very surprised to read this and suspect the dealers are having the same reaction.

Reason? The fact that they charged A6 and A8 customers £100 (at least officially, some got it for free). If all A3 and A4 customers were upgraded for free I can see MMI users who had to cough up £100 being far from impressed. I know I'd be banging on the dealer's door demanding an explanation and refund.

I dont think TMC will stop working with the old discs back in as TMC is activated by the firmware update not the maps. Putting the old disc back in won't roll back the firmware.

Hi,

I've just been into my local Audi dealership about getting my 2006 A3 upgraded to fix the TMC and have been told it will not be free of charge? He mentioned £100 but is going to confirm the cost on Monday. He referenced the following line from the info included in this thread "The following programme will allow you to fit this disc for existing A3 and A4 customers at subsidised cost." i.e. SUBSIDISED cost and hence not free frown.gif

I mentioned that I've read about people on here getting their cars booked in for free and he said I can't believe what I read on forums!

Just wondering whether this is true or should I hold on for a free upgrade? Anyone know of any dealers close to Portsmouth (not Portsmouth Audi!) that will do the upgrade on warranty?

Many thanks,

Tim.

It is free - its not what we are saying - Audi UK have emailed people to say it is free. 100% free. Mine is booked in on Monday. I am not paying a penny!
