Speedywheels
Apologies, hadn't read your post on the R36 thread. My dealer seems to think its a slam dunk on an RHD Rthing arriving in his showroom in Sept. Time will tell
rs32
I don't get this - you can spec options, but a car is arriving in September. so when is the build slot booked for ?
Speedywheels
Don't know. Told me specs should be available sometime in June/July for car delivery at the showroom in September. He'll contact me when specs are known to see if I'm still interested and want to place an order. Just telling you what I was told.
rs32
that's good news for prospective buyers then - new performance Golf available from Summer this year - maybe this will be publicly confirmed by VW soon. Seems a bit early though given the MkV R32 has only been on sale for just under 14 months. Goodness knows what's going on in the internal workings of VW at the moment. [/ QUOTE ] Well I've just put my name down at a local(ish) dealer for this speculative order, well its gotta be worth a shot only for the salesman to call back 5 mins later to confirm that I am actually no.2 on the list.... someone beat me to it by 2 days He said he'd call back tomorrow to update with further information (whatever that means )
Simonl
[ QUOTE ] They wont let it upstage the S3 just like the S3 cant upstage the TT, [/ QUOTE ] The Original .:R upstaged the S3 with 250hp vs 225hp. I don't think it matters anyway. Different markets IMO. RSI will be quite an enthusiasts choice (like the original R).
Ian_G
Well, my dealer knows an RSi is coming, has no details, thinks it'll be the 3.6 and was more than happy to take my (small refundable) deposit. First on their list. At the same time I had a drive of a GT(?) with the 1.4 supercharged turbo engine. Quite impressed, so maybe my deposit will go to an Iroc / Scirocco instead. Keep the greenies happy with a 1.4.
Speedywheels
Forgot to also say that the sales guy told me the wheels will be unique to the RSi and will be a 19" version. As I said before, just what I got told.

Ian_G
My maths says about £15 loss of interest after tax. Not too bad at all to get on the list, get kept up to date and probably get one of the first test drives. Also stops me spending any more money on the R32.... I wonder if the Haldex Gen II will swap over
Oli
I doubt if there will be any test drives. Because they are only bringing them in, in limited numbers, they will all be pre-sold customer cars

Mook
Oatz - I could tell you, but I'd have to get one of my associates to perform some minor surgery on your memory... Oli - 900 total (i.e. coming out of the factory). Total coming to the UK is yet to be confirmed. VW is targetting total exclusivity on this model. Releasing the RSi is designed to be the final push on the Mk5 Golf, before the Mk6 is released, in the same way as the Mk4 R32 was released, and the B5 RS4 way back when. N3WOB
I've got an order placed with 3 different dealers Rumour is that the styling is going to be pretty close to Oettinger's recent efforts.. They're going to make the side skirts rather more sporty too with rear air vents/ducts (like Caractere)

ashleywater
280PS? Not even the same as the R36 passhite at 300PS? If it does appear and I still dont think it will, optimist to sceptic within a week and it is supposed to be running a 3.6 mill WTF would they detune it? It has to be a "spanked up" 2.0 FSI at that PS. Mook seriously if you have a genuine source on this car please PM me, I am about to pull the trigger on two cars and if this car is going to be available this year I will put the safety back on! Oh and vote for the greens at the next GE

[/ QUOTE ] ....Wouldn't 280 on a 2.0 FSI be the pushing the envelope of VW built-in 'headroom' on the face of it? It would hopefully include other more fundamental engine modifications in order to maintain 'headroom' as an everyday road car.
Snoopy
Don't see why, the 230PS,240PS,260PS all have uprated internals over the 185PS,200PS 2.0T so the 280PS is not a big step up.
