eBay: Can realistic prices be achieved for cars?

Just wondering if selling a car on eBay is even worth trying these days?

Had my 2003/03 318i 2.0SE Touring on there (93K) and it reached £4,950. A dealer (1) has already offered £5200-5300 as an underwritten price to a dealer (2) who has a car I am interested in, and therefore dealer (2) offered me £6K as a PX.

The Network Q website seems to suggest around £6200-6800 depending on condition.

So, is it even worth advertising on eBay and if not, where is the best place?

I only tried it because I used to buy and sell my Mk2 Escorts on there, but obviously they were a bit more specialist and of lower value.

Have heard recently that AT has its fair share of scammers (no idea how that would work) etc. and was a bit of a waste of time these days.

Interesting, will have to look at where else I could sell it privately.

I would say no.. you're never going to get a good price on e-bay cars.

Personally i view them all as a bit of a joke. Auto-trader would be the way to go.

I sold my R32 on Ebay fairly easily. Took £500 less than it was up for, but that was still £2,000 more than I was offered as a trade-in. 169144-ok.gif

A pleasant, easy sale to an nice couple.

Wouldn't waste your time with eBay,if it's over a couple of grand all you're gonna get is mails and calls from people offering half the retail price and telling you about the others they've seen go cheap in the past.

Try Autotrader as already suggested and maybe even Exchange and Mart. 169144-ok.gif

I have bought and sold many a car on eBay - knowing the price of them on eBay, can mean a bargain.

Many dealers offer old Part Ex's on there.

You need to have someething very different OR very common to get a decent price. eBay allows you to put on many more pics and a massive description, which Autotrader does not.

As always, depends who around and who wants to buy it. Hopefully 2 or more people!

Just sold a Landy 2a for the FIL via ebay - chap saw it and came to view, bought it on the spot for a tad more than FIL expected to get.

Job was a good 'un even when we factored in the £11.20 fee for listing it.

Ebay is good for getting 'cheap' advertising - the chap who bought the Landy lived about 5 miles away and probably wouldn't have seen ads in local papers or AT.

I sold my Audi A4 on ebay. Didn't expect much, was ready to scrap it and get the obligatory £50 for it.

With no MOT/tax, bald tyres, a major oil leak, and suspension issues, all declared on the listing, i thought a £550 buy it now price would never be taken. It sold in like 20 minutes.
